Women of the Week

Women of the Week

By  |

Normally this time of the year, a lot of the Nice Girls would be at San Diego Comic-Con International. Instead, we’re all staying safe at home due to the global pandemic. In place of this year’s event, organisers put together Comic-Con@Home, which has provided us with not only a great source of entertainment, but also some worthy Women of the Week picks. Read on to find out who has impressed us…

Nominated by Roz: Charlize Theron in Charlize Theron: Evolution of a Badass – An Action Hero Career Retrospective Comic-Con@Home panel

Charlize Theron’s SDCC@Home panel on her career (particularly her action career) was a reminder of the gains women have made in making action our own. She’s been a champion of some of her projects (she originally optioned Atomic Blonde early on and produced it) and in creating spaces for women in action films. She’s referenced how much of an impact Signorney Weaver had in Alien on her acting and I hope someone else has seen either Mad Max: Fury Road or Atomic Blonde to see their potential.

Nominated by Roz: Ashleigh Murray and Lindsey Morgan from TV Guide Magazine Fan Favorites Comic-Con@Home panel

I’d also like to nominate Ashleigh Murray (Riverdale, Katy Keene) and Lindsey Morgan (The 100) from the TV Guide Fan Favorites panel for talking about diversity in shows – both in terms of race and ability for their characters. I applaud all actors who are using their shows to work on affecting change in the larger world.
