Women of the Week

In our latest edition of Women of the Week, the women from the new season of Designated Survivor on Netflix have our attention and accolades!

Nominated by Ange: Julie White as Lorraine Zimmer and Italia Ricci as Emily Rhodes in Designated Survivor.

I’ve spent the past week watching the new season of Designated Survivor, which is now on Netflix and I have to say that its relocated home looks good on it! White is a newcomer to the show this season and brings with her a breath of fresh air with her character’s boldness and lack of zero f**ks as the president’s campaign manager. It’s great to see a woman on screen who tells it like it is and doesn’t hold back. Ricci is also a strong player in this latest season as her character struggles to cope with her mother’s cancer diagnosis. She particularly shines in episode 9 where her character not only has the difficult task of assisting her mom with her final wishes to die peacefully, but also dealing with the aftermath. Both the scene where she’s in the hospital when the doctors realize her mom has a DNR and then the following scene where an oblivious Dontae is trying to get her to investigate Lorraine not realizing that Emily’s mother has literally just died and Emily is struggling to keep it together on the phone were heartbreaking to watch.
