Throwback Tuesday: Do You Remember: Love Monkey

By  |

The following article is from April 2016 and is one of the first few posts from my long-running “Do You Remember” article series:

Men of Love Monkey

Back in January of 2006, a unique little show called Love Monkey, based on a book of the same name by Kyle Smith, debuted on CBS. It told the story of a 30-something, single, record executive who navigated the tumultuous and highly amusing waters of work and dating in New York City.

The series was created by Michael Rauch, who has been an executive producer and writer on the successful USA Network “blue sky’ series Royal Pains for the last seven years and starred actor Tom Cavanagh (who can now be seen on the hit CW series The Flash).

Sadly, despite starting out with strong ratings (at the time), Love Monkey only lasted for three episodes during the 2006-2007 TV season; but the remaining five episodes ended up being aired on VH1.

Among the cast of this short-lived series were:

Judy Greer, who has gone on to have a successful film and TV career in box office movies like 27 Dresses, The Descendents, Love & Other Drugs, the remake of Carrie, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Tomorrowland, Jurassic World, Ant-Man as well as TV shows Arrested Development, Two and a Half Men, Married and Archer;

Jason Priestley, who (of course) starred in the original Beverly Hills 90210 and went on to appear in Call Me Fitz and Haven;

Ivana Milicevic, who has starred for the past several seasons in the Cinemax series Banshee;

Katherine LaNasa, who has gone on to appear in Deception, Longmire and Satisfaction;

Larenz Tate, who has seen appeared in Rescue Me and House of Lies. He will soon be seen in the new NBC series Game of Silence; and,

Christopher Wiehl, who has appeared in Jericho and Switched at Birth as well as the holiday movies Moonlight & Mistletoe and Farewell Mr. Kringle.

The series also featured new artist Teddy Geiger as well as established artists like LeAnn Rimes, Ben Folds, Aimee Mann, James Blunt, Natasha Bedingfield, John Mellencamp, Lisa Loeb and Mya.

Love Monkey only ran for 8 episodes from January 17 to May 16 in 2006, airing on CBS then on VH1. Do you remember Love Monkey?
