THE BOLD TYPE: Three rounds of Two Truths and a Lie in 3×05 “Technical Difficulties”

By  |

In this week’s episode of Freeform’s THE BOLD TYPE, Jane reveals that she has created her own drinking game centered around boss Patrick’s “quirks”. (One sip for every time he doesn’t like one of her stories, two sips if he is meditating at his desk, a shot everytime he says ‘namaste’ and this last one wasn’t quite confirmed but we think it’s a gulp/chug every time he likes one of Jane’s ideas? That or every time he tells her to ‘plus it up’ – we need confirmation of this.) In spirit of Jane’s game – which by the way is usually done with coffee since they’re in the office most of the time – we thought we’d do this week’s recap with a game of our own – two truths and a lie.

Jane

a) Jacqueline decides not to help Jane with her investigative story.

b) She’s the first to receive the published edition of Ryan’s book.

c) She and Patrick come to an understanding

The lie is a). Jane and Jacqueline are conducting interviews for their investigative piece regarding the rumours that a renowned photographer is mistreating her models. Their latest subject wishes for her identity to be protected so when the Safford hack happens, Jane is quite concerned about her emails which contains research for the story including recordings, will be leaked and jeopardise their investigation.

Ryan receives published copies of his book and gives the first one to Jane, aww. He later reveals that there’s talk of him doing a book tour for it. And then after having a bit too much to drink at Richard and Sutton’s dinner party and revealing to Patrick that she created a drinking game about him, the two reach a slight truce where she recognizes the humanity in him and he admits that she is a good writer.

Sutton

a) She finally gets into Julian Grant’s design seminar.

b) She makes snaps and makes one of Richard’s friends cry at their dinner party.

c) She agrees to move to Connecticut with Richard.

The lie is c). Sutton and Richard are hosting a dinner party and it’s the first time she’s meeting some of his college friends. The hacking dramas means that Richard gets caught up at work and she agrees to prepare everything. One of the guests is pregnant and has dietary requirements so he just sends her the email…which also happens to have a chain about a property for sale in Connecticut. She doesn’t have time to ask him about it before the party and is a little on edge, taking comments to heart. It doesn’t help that one of the friends calls Sutton’s interest in designing a phase. Sutton snaps and stands her ground that she enjoys living in New York and being in her 20s and exploring her options. In return one of the women breaks down but Sutton and the women end up clearing the air. Also clearing the air after the party? Richard and Sutton. He admits he wants a family some day and would want to move out of the city to somewhere that will help their child get into better schools. She points they’ve only just moved in together and her career is getting started. Is the age difference of her being 26 and he being 40 (really didn’t think he was 40 by the way!) and being at different stages of their lives going to affect their relationship? Nope, because he’s not going anywhere. Aww. P.S. After much agonizing, Sutton finally gets a personal call from Julian Grant himself telling her that she has been accepted into seminar. Go Sutton!

Kat

a) The girls decide that Kat’s campaign should include a Katniss from The Hunger Games pun.

b) She is a terrible cook.

c) Tia is not into her that way.

Apparently the lie is b) but we suspect c) is a contender too despite Tia claiming that no she wasn’t flirting with Kat but rather doing her job as campaign manager and talking her up. Awkward. Kat is actually a great cook and comes to the rescue when Richard is unable to help Sutton prepare for the dinner party. As for a), we are so on board with Sutton and Jane’s Katniss analogy that Kat is slinging bows of political justice and fighting for the district!

THE BOLD TYPE airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Freeform.
