Women of the Week

Which talented females wowed us on the small screen this past week? Read on to find out!

Nominated by Leah: Emily Hampshire as Stevie Budd on Schitt’s Creek

The season five finale was a love letter to Stevie and Emily played it beautifully. Her performance of “Maybe This Time” from Cabaret was tear inducing. She sung with so much emotion…seriously….tears! Emily has always been a favorite of mine and her portrayal of Stevie is an amazing thing to watch each week.

Nominated by Ange: Caterina Scorsone as Amelia Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy

It’s not easy being Amelia Shepherd and the latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy, which was quite Amelia centric, reminded us of just how much she has gone through and evolved. Slowly and quietly, Amelia has become one of my favorite character’s this season with the show giving her a chance to shine beyond being Derek’s little sister and the on/off drama with Owen. We’ve seen her change, but unfortunately her family still see her as the screw up and black sheep of the family. Between the realization that she doesn’t need validation from her blood sisters, her mom acknowledging that she could have been a better parent to Amelia growing up (seriously that heart to heart with Tyne Daly as Mama Shepherd!) and then her humble pie doughnuts apology to Link, we saw all different sides of Amelia this episode and Scorsone nailed it! (Side note, I’d like Amelia and Link to work out. I’m really enjoying the more light hearted side he’s bringing out of her. Such a nice thing to see after all the Owen drama!)

Nominated by Melissa: Dolly Parton on The Orville

Can I nominate Dolly Parton for letting The Orville use her iconic “9 to 5” in this week’s episode? In a story about female Maclans staging a revolution to declare sovereignty, Dolly’s song added a delightful and powerful musical element.

Ange is the Girl from Oz who travelled the States. Teen dramas, rom-comedies and superhero shows are her weakness. She also loves a good crime and medical drama and probably watches more TV than she can handle... You can contact her at ange@nicegirlstv.com.
