Women of the Week

In our latest edition of Women of the Week, our top picks are two women who are pioneers in their own right. Who are we applauding? Read on to find out!

Nominated by Lexie: Ellen DeGeneres (The Ellen Show)

Since National Coming Out day was this week, I’d like to nominate Ellen DeGeneres. Being one of the first through the door is never easy, and we were always lucky to have somebody there to handle it with grace and positivity, and a truly great Instagram account manager, the whole time. Plus dancing.

Nominated by Cara: Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor on Doctor Who

My nomination this week is Jodie Whittaker as the new Doctor. I’ve been excited since she was announced as the next doctor, and I think her introduction was spectacular. She did a great job of channeling a bit of the past regenerations, but also making a clear delineation from the past. And she was so good. Confident to the point of cocky, while managing to be a little vulnerable and charming. Classic Doctor characteristics. I was impressed the acting as much as the character. There’s a moment when the camera focuses on the Doctor’s face while the monster is being revealed, and it was such a nice bit of subtle acting on Whittaker’s part. You could see emotions shifting, and it made the big reveal all the more disturbing. I think we’re in for a good season of Doctor Who.

Seconded by Rueben

I agree with Cara. In fact, I couldn’t have said anything better except Jodie was BRILLIANT!
