Now that the 2018-2019 TV season has kicked off, our TV viewing is in full swing and there are plenty of performances that deserve recognition. Read on to find out who we’re nominating as our first Women of the Week for the season…

Nominated by Leah: Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Kendall on 9-1-1

I’ve always been a fan so it is great to have her back on a prime time show. She is playing a slightly damaged, still strong character and I’m loving it.

Nominated by Rueben: Chrissy Metz as Kate Pearson on This Is Us

How she handled the news from the doctor that she wouldn’t be getting IVF through her (or any other doctor), then telling everyone at her birthday party what her wish was (and how emotional that scene was) and then getting the news from the doctor that the doctor changed her mind. She really gave a wonderful, moving performance.

Nominated by Lexie: Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Simone on The Good Place (and D’arcy Carden as Janet)

My nomination is Kirby Howell-Baptiste, who plays Simone on The Good Place, for being able to step in and right away have chemistry with the rest of the characters. Simone got so many belly laughs from me, AND she was adorable with Chidi. I’m excited to see where they go with her character. And of course, my standing nomination is D’arcy Carden because she’s D’arcy Carden and I’ve missed her on my screen.

Nominated by Karen: Lyric Ross  as Deja on This is Us

Lyric Ross shone in her role as Deja on This is Us. She acted against Sterling K. Brown through the entire episode, and held her own brilliantly. I’m looking forward to her new role as show regular, and and thrilled for what she brings to the show.

Nominated by Roz: Hillary Rodham Clinton as Hilary Clendon on Murphy Brown

I’m going with Hillary Clinton playing Hilary Clendon, with self-deprecating flair and panache. Jokes about being Secratary of a major corporation and knowing how to handle emails make me smile in a way I didn’t imagine I could this week.

Ange is the Girl from Oz who travelled the States. Teen dramas, rom-comedies and superhero shows are her weakness. She also loves a good crime and medical drama and probably watches more TV than she can handle... You can contact her at ange@nicegirlstv.com.
