Nominated by Leah: Emily Hampshire as Jennifer Goines in 12 Monkeys

I’m not sure there are words to convey how great this season was. The finale was one of the best series finales ever. Due in very very large part to Emily’s portrayal of Jennifer. Her crazy was brilliant. Truly amazing. God I’m going to miss the character of Jennifer on my screen each week.

Nominated by Cara: Betty Gilpin as Debbie “Liberty Belle” Eagan in Glow

I loved her in season 1 and in American Gods, but she is outstanding in season 2. As her all-American wrestling persona, Liberty Belle, she hams it up with the best of the WWE, but so do a lot of the ladies. In a show with a very strong cat, she stands out this season in the way she shows us Debbie’s struggle as she tries to further her career while going through a divorce and raising a young son. As much fun as Glow is, and it’s pretty dang fun, watching Gilpin play a woman breaking down in spite of all efforts to keep it together was so relatable. She isn’t always the good gal and she does some pretty crappy things, but you want her to succeed anyway when you see her pushing to be taken seriously as a producer. This character could become a caricature so easily, but Gilpin keeps her grounded and makes her real.

YES to Betty Gilpin! Her portrayal of a woman coming to terms with her divorce and reclaiming control over her life and career was powerful and inspiring.
