Claws: Revelations on Family and Betrayal (Recap)

By  |

This week was a reminder about the importance of family, blood and otherwise. Desna is learning that family is everything, and they’re the ones who’ll be next to you when it matters.

Polly and Ken

Ken is in trouble and agrees to wear a wire for Arlene and her partner. However, his secret agent duties take a backseat when his mother arrives to meet Polly. Polly’s taken by surprise and the timing isn’t good because her boys are debuting at the club. She’s even more taken aback when Marnie shows up with boyfriend in tow. Polly’s still having trouble connecting with Marnie, and this week it becomes clear that Polly isn’t really seeing Marnie, but rather trying to get Marnie to fit a mold she has in her mind. Ken’s mom uses her counselor voice and tells Polly she’s got to confront the things she’s been running from with her lies. She’s the last of the group to let us see behind the curtain, and it looks like Polly’s going to have to dig into her past or destroy her future.

The Hillbilly Mafia

The Hussers were out for vengeance this week. Uncle Daddy is tired of waiting for the Haitians. A vision of Juanda and a good old fashioned beat down on some homophobes gets him feeling back on top, so Uncle Daddy decides it’s time to make his move. Roller isn’t a part of this plan though as he’s too busy at home with his wife and sick baby. Roller is becoming a real daddy, but this might complicate things for him now that Uncle Daddy’s making his move.

Who is Desna’s Family?

Desna’s been drifting from her friends and family recently, drawn in by Zlata’s praise and lavish gifts. She’s been basking in her relationship with Ruval, but it looks like it’s about to come crashing down around her. High on the opening of the new clinic and a new car, Desna’s elated when Ruval proposes. Dean’s debut as a dancer goes spectacularly well, and it finally seems like Desna’s getting the life she wants.

As the night winds down, Uncle Daddy’s attempt to regain power brings it all to a head. During the shootout at the club, Zlata shows that she’s not going down easily. Zlata had conceded to a sit down earlier, but her actions at the club show Desna that she probably wasn’t being honest, especially when she shoots Bryce in the chest. Jenn and Uncle Daddy are distraught at the hospital, but Desna can’t help feeling betrayed. She goes to confront Zlata, but learns of an even bigger betrayal when she finds Ruval and Zlata together, mocking Desna’s belief in Ruval’s love. We knew that the relationship with Ruval was bound for a surprise soon, but this was so much more than expected.

We’ll have to wait until next week to find out if Bryce lives or dies, and we’ll have to see what Desna’s going to do in response to this betrayal. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

Cara spends way too much time thinking about subtext, and the puns are always intended. When not watching TV, she can generally be found with her nose in a book.
