WOMEN OF THE WEEK

It’s that time of week again – We gather round and pick our favorite women from this week in TV.

Bre-Z who plays Freda Gatz in Empire
Nominated by Lisa: This week was the big rap battle Freda vs. Hakeem and she killed it! She is so talented. It is so refreshing to see a female artist showcase her talent without being over sexualized. Bre-Z has pure raw talent and has blown everyone away with her lyrical skills this season. She may not have won the battle (lyrically she won in my opinion I’ve watched the battle like 5 times already lol), but she definitely made an impression and everyone is talking about her(she may or may not have broken twitter, the jury is still out on that). She is 100% my pick for Woman of the week!!!

Bailey Madison who plays Clementine in Northpole: Open for Christmas
Nominated by Liz: I first saw her as the younger Snow White on “Once Upon a Time”. She proved there she could more than handle the emotion packed roles. This week I caught her reprising her role as the cheerful and clever elf, Clementine, in the screener for The Hallmark Channel’s “Northpole: Open for Christmas” (airing 11/21). With that 1000 watt smile of hers, she should be on the top of everyone’s Christmas tree this season.

Aja Naomi King who plays Michaela Pratt in How To Get Away With Murder
Nominated by Roz: I want to tip my hat to Aja Noami King for her emotional breakdown in the How to Get Away with Murder fall finale.
I’d really love to honor all the ladies for what they did, but…she was spectacular.

Viola Davis who plays Annalise in How To Get Away With Murder
Nominated by Angela: We’re so used to Annalise being the tough and crafty one, always in control or able to manipulate a situation to be under her control that it was nice to see more vulnerable and softer sides to her – the guilt she felt over her role in Asher’s dad’s death to trying to protect Nate – while trying to hold it together. I particularly would like to give a shoutout to the scene where she realises everything is falling apart and she is struggling to keep her cool and take control of the situation, and also the scene where she is oozing with desperation while trying to provoke each of the core four students to try and shoot her to set up the scene and that moment where she has pushed Wes too far. I can’t wait to see how Viola/Annalise plays the aftermath of this fallout – the wait til February is going to kill me!

Shonda Rhimes Showrunner for Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal & How To Get Away With Murder
Nominated by Melissa: Can we choose a showrunner? Because DAYUM Shonda Rhimes! With three shows currently on the air, all of which aired their fall finales on Thursday, she delivered three brilliant episodes that have an entire nation waiting for February 11.

Stephanie Beatriz and Melissa Fumero who play Diaz and Amy on Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Nominated by Karen: The Mattress” was a great ep, and both ladies had wonderful storylines this week. Amy (Melissa) showed growing frustration that bubbled under the surface about her relationship with Jake – as seen through her dissatisfaction with his “dumpster mattress”, and Diaz (Stephanie) who played role-model to her “little brother” with some tough love. Terry expressed some concern over Rosa’s methods, and when his plan backfires, she shifts her focus for slightly different reasons – and Terry takes credit anyway. Both Beatriz and Fumero played their parts with subtlety and heart, while showing why this show is becoming a valued part of the Illustrious ‘The Office’/’Parks & Rec’ Legacy.
