Women of the Week
Women of the Week
We kicked the week off with the heart-wrenching season finale of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and boy did it set the bar high for performances this week. By the end of the week, the Nice Girls were unanimous with selecting leads Jane Levy and Mary Steenbergen as their Women of the Week picks. Read on for our takes!
Leah:
Jane Levy as Zoey from Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. There wasn’t a NiceGirl that watched the season finale that didn’t spend the last 20 minutes sobbing and for good reason. Jane Levy did such an amazing job. She can be quirky and funny and then sing a few lines of a song acapella while her voice cracks with emotion and you are right there with her.
Melissa:
I second this nomination and add Mary Steenbergen as Maggie Clarke. Mary gave us a beautiful, poignant performance as a woman coping with the sudden illness and inevitable loss of the love of her life during season 1. Her example of grace and warmth and grief and love and uncertainty has given me a lot of food for thought about how I want to handle similar situations when the time comes.
Karen:
Thirded. Both Jane and Mary had almost perfect character arcs over the course of the season, but in the last episode they gave their all. The performances by everyone, but Jane and Mary in particular, were heart-wrenching, bittersweet, and most of all, REAL. I’m completely invested in these characters and this show, and it’s mostly due to the women who carry it.
Rueben:
Can I fourth that statement. It was an incredible finale to watch, and I was sobbing like a baby as this hit close to home for me because of how my family lost our dad. It was tour de force performance by everyone especially Jane.
Ange:
Jumping on the bandwagon and backing up these nominees and reasons! Was there anyone who watched this episode that wasn’t crying? Both Jane and Mary beautifully portrayed the heart-wrenching storyline of watching someone you love pass on and how people react in their own ways. But then to add onto these powerful performances some musical performances that could have easily come across as cheesy but instead had audiences in their feels even more? That truly is impressive.
