Holiday Bingo: A December Bride Edition
The Nice Girls TV Holiday Bingo Marathon continues! It’s Christmas Eve and with some free time up my sleeve, this Nice Girl has been pulling out her Nice Girls TV Holiday Movie Bingo cards and making her way through as many Christmas movies as she can over the past few days. As part of this marathon, I’ve been watching a collection of movies that have dropped this year and some that have dropped in recent years and sharing my viewing experience. These posts contain spoilers. So if you don’t want to be spoiled about the movie, don’t read any further! With four different cards to play along with this year, you too can join in on the fun!
For my next Holiday Movie Bingo Marathon pick, I’m going back to 2016 with the Hallmark Channel film A December Bride starring Jessica Lowndes and Daniel Lissing. Hallmark Channel is actually re-airing this film on December 26 at 12pm if you want to see how you go with a Nice Girls TV Holiday Movie Bingo Card!
A year ago Layla O’Reilly was engaged, when her friend Seth encouraged Layla’s cousin Jessica and Layla’s fiance to get to know each other. Fast forward to the present and Layla’s ex fiance and her cousin are about to get married. Layla is dreading attending the wedding and is definitely not attending it alone. After running into Seth, she begrudgingly accepts his offer to be her date to the wedding. However, Seth takes the ruse too far and announces that he and Layla are engaged at the wedding. With a promising career opportunity in sight, Layla agrees to play along and ends up working closely with Seth. It isn’t before long that feelings between the pair begin to blossom for real. For this film, I randomly selected Holiday Movie Bingo Card #2. Here we go…
Before the movie even starts we can mark off Lead Actor Has Appeared in 2 or More Hallmark Movies, as Jessica Lowndes, who plays Layla, has quite a few Hallmark movie credits on her resume. Daniel Lissing, who plays Seth, is also no stranger to the Hallmark Channel, having starred on When Calls The Heart for five seasons.
Christmas Wedding – Do we count Jessica and Jack’s wedding as a Christmas wedding? If not, then Layla gets her wish of being a December bride at the end of the film when she and Seth have a Christmas wedding!
Lead Character Has a Creative/Artistic Job – Layla is an interior designer assistant and wants to start her own business. It ends up happening sooner rather than later when her boss fires her after discovering that Layla is decorating Seth’s house.
Cynical Character Has Slick Hair – At the start of the film, Seth isn’t one for love or Christmas. I’d say his hair is slick, right?
Lead Character Hates Christmas – As mentioned above, Seth isn’t very festive. Layla makes him a believer by the end of the film, but do we count this as a mark on the bingo card? We’ll lightly mark it in case – technically he doesn’t hate Christmas at the start of the film, but he didn’t love it either…
Exes Forced to Work Together – Layla and Seth are ex friends. Does that count? We’re lightly marking it in case!
Dead Parent – Layla’s mom passed away a few years ago.
Meaningful Discussion Over Hot Cocoa, Tea or Egg Nog – Layla and Seth open up to each other about family and Christmas over mugs of hot cocoa.
Holiday Baked Goods – Seth bakes gingerbread cookies after Layla shares that it was a tradition her mom used to do. Aww!
Sleigh Ride – Okay, so does Seth acquiring a sleigh to sit in the front yard as part of Layla’s presentation count? Sleigh rides are usually in romantic scenes and this gesture itself was pretty sweet. We’re lightly marking it on our card.
Christmas Caroling – The families sing Christmas carols as they help Layla and Seth decorate Seth’s house before the big tour starts.
Best Friend/Boss is a Person of Colour – We weren’t sure whether to count this one or not, but Seth’s colleague (who he seems pretty chummy with) and his colleague’s wife who is in charge of the Tour of Homes, are people of colour.
That’s another holiday movie down! Can I squeeze another one in? Watch this space and find out!
Plus, if you’re inspired to rewatch this film, don’t forget that A December Bride is airing on the Hallmark Channel at 12pm on December 26.
