Holiday Bingo: A Cinderella Story – A Christmas Wish Edition

The Nice Girls TV Holiday Bingo Marathon continues! With Christmas almost upon us and some free time up my sleeve, this Nice Girl is pulling out her Nice Girls TV Holiday Movie Bingo cards and making her way through as many Christmas movies as she can. As part of this marathon, I’ll be watching a collection of movies that have dropped this year and some that have dropped in recent years and sharing my viewing experience. There will be spoilers. So if you don’t want to be spoiled about the movie, don’t read any further! With four different cards to play along with this year, you too can join in on the fun!

For my next Holiday Movie Bingo Marathon pick, I’m going with a new film from this year, A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish, which is available on Netflix, DVD and Digital. Part of the A Cinderella Story franchise, this film starring Laura Marano and Gregg Sulkin puts a festive modern day twist on the Cinderella tale. Marano plays an aspiring singer-songwriter named Katherine ‘Kat’ Decker, who works as an elf at the local Santa Land. She lives with her cruel stepmother and two dimwitted stepsisters. Sulkin plays Nick, who is actually the son of a billionaire that owns the Santa Land. Nick starts working as a Santa at the Santa Land but is keeping his identity a secret. The two become friends and he invites her to the prestigious Christmas gala coming up. In true Cinderella fashion, Kat’s stepfamily find out and sabotage her efforts of going, but with a bit of help, Kat ends up at the ball gala. For this film, I randomly selected Holiday Movie Bingo Card #4. Here we go…

Musical Performance – A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish opens up with a musical number as part of the opening credits. That’s not the only musical performance in this film – the Santa Land elves aren’t just regular elves, they’re also singing and dancing elves!

Modern Take on a Classic – As the name of the film suggests, A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish is a modern day take on Cinderella.

Character Has Holiday-Themed Name (Holly, Eve, Chris, Nick, etc.) – Where to begin? We have male lead Dominic AKA Nick, he and his father’s surname is Wintergarden and Kat’s surname is Decker. Kat’s stepsister’s name is Joy and her blog is called ‘The Joy of Giving’.

Dead Parent + Single Parent + Dead Spouse – Kat’s father passed away and although it’s never actually mentioned in the film, we’re assuming like in the story of Cinderella, her mother passed away when she was young and that’s why she’s stuck with her stepmother and stepsisters. Kat’s stepmother doesn’t miss an opportunity to bring up how it’s been a struggle since Kat’s father died. She also exploits his death to get herself an invite to the Winterbottom’s Christmas gala. Nick’s mother also passed away too, leaving him with his dad. Nick’s father can be distracted at times but we can see he cares for Nick.

Ugly Christmas Sweater or Tie – Technically neither but does an ugly elf outfit count? I’m lightly marking it on my card in case!

Life Changing Inheritance – Kat’s father left an inheritance for her and it’s her ticket out of home once she turns 18. She still has a couple of months to go though and then her stepmother later reveals that she spent it all… Whether that’s true or not, I don’t know but Mr Winterbottom steps in and kindly offers to take care of Kat’s finances if that’s the case.

Near Miss Kiss – Kat and Nick are thisclose to having their first kiss at work when Isla interrupts.

Mistaken Identity – Kat doesn’t know who Nick really is at first, Nick doesn’t realise that he has already met Kat, Joy pretends to be Kat at the gala, while Kat pretends to be a performer to get into the gala – so many mistaken identities!

Christmas Program/Concert/Recital – There is festive entertainment at the gala and Kat ends up performing a solo there.
