What went down in the ONE CHICAGO world last week? Read our recap on the latest CHICAGO MEDCHICAGO FIRE and CHICAGO P.D. episodes and find out!

On the Case

There were certainly some unique cases in the ONE CHICAGO world this past week. On MED, Dr Halstead and Dr Charles were treating a patient who claimed to be a vampire – he had some seriously pointy looking teeth, was coughing up blood and blistered in the sunlight. Not to mention, his crazy girlfriend straight up bit Dr Charles on the hand when they tried to leave the hospital! It ended up being a case of Hepatitis C, which meant that Dr Charles might want to get that bite on his hand checked out… Also on MED, Dr Choi and April tended to a patient with a bionic arm from the army. The arm was infected but she didn’t tell the army that she had left base for the weekend and begged Choi and April not to report her. Choi felt compelled to reach out to them so that he could understand how to best treat the patient. April wasn’t impressed that he broke their patient’s confidence and nor were the army with their pet project escaping. Even with Goodwin stepping in to try and intervene, the army were determined to get their soldier back asap – even if it meant compromising the patient’s treatment!

CHICAGO FIRE — “Welcome to Crazytown” Episode 807 — Pictured: (l-r) Miranda Rae Mayo as Stella Kidd, Jesse Spencer as Matthew Casey, Taylor Kinney as Lt. Kelly Severide — (Photo by: Adrian Burrows/NBC)

On FIRE, 51 are called to a hostage situation. Herrmann asks a police officer to move his squad car so that he can move his engine closer under Boden’s orders. The officer dismisses Herrmann, who takes matters into his own hands and moves the car himself. The cop is not impressed and gets up in Herrmann’s face and we all know how Herrmann gets when he’s all fired up – sometimes his temper gets the best of him. As for the hostage situation, Casey and Severide make a brave attempt to rescue the hostage. It’s quite a close call when the guy calling the shots spots them escaping with the hostage on the side of the building. Just as he’s about to shoot at them, Herrmann hits the shooter with the water canon and SWAT teams move in.

CHICAGO P.D.- “Informant” Episode 707 — Pictured: (l-r) Paul Adelstein as Superintendent Crawford, Jason Beghe as Sgt. Hank Voight — (Photo by: Matt Dinerstein/NBC)

P.D. focused on yet another drug case, but this one was a bit more interesting and had a lot more at stake. Not only did we see the return of Darius, a prominent drug dealer that Intelligence arrested earlier this season and then released, but we also learnt a bit more about Hailey through her interactions with her CI. For starters, her full name is Hailey Ann (or maybe Anne – we need confirmation on how it’s spelt) Upton and she seems to have a pretty good relationship with Cameron, her CI. That is until he gets a little too enthusiastic about trying to help and even turns up at District 21. Upton is furious and tells him that she can’t use him and that he should leave town. He refuses and I can already tell that this is not going to end well for him. And whaddya know – next time we see him, he’s trying to talk while she’s in her car, when he is suddenly shot and his blood is splattered on Upton’s face! Traumatic much? Upton is on the warpath to get justice for her CI and wants Darius to pay. (She’s convinced he ordered the hit when he saw Cameron at 21 while he was being briefed as a CI himself.) She gets pretty fired up at Voight and he pulls her into his office. He questions whether she’s getting fired up at him because she feels guilty over Cameron’s death and wants Voight to either yell at her or make her feel better. He tells her she’s a good cop but death is part of the game and that they don’t make deals with angels, that’s not how CIs work and that dealing with questionable people is a part of the job. Darius is free for now but we wouldn’t be surprised if that’s not the last that we see of him.

Career Challenges

CHICAGO FIRE — “Welcome to Crazytown” Episode 807 — Pictured: Taylor Kinney as Lt. Kelly Severide — (Photo by: Adrian Burrows/NBC)

The latest edition of the ONE CHICAGO shows saw some developments with careers. On MED, med student Elsa Curry reappeared and was working with Dr Manning this episode. (After finally binging all of YOUNGER over the summer, it’s so weird to see Molly Bernard in a more straight-laced and uptight role!) We’re so used to seeing Elsa be very abrupt and to the point (she even remarks that people make assumptions about her being a robot) that it was nice to see her let her guard down a bit and be vulnerable and feel. She and Manning have a heart to heart on the balcony (it’s been awhile since we’ve had a good balcony moment!) and Nat advises her that those feelings she has will be her greatest assets and that she shouldn’t try to hide them.

On FIRE, Cruz is excited to be show casing the Slamigan at a local firefighter expo – he even has shirts made up. His excitement is culled a little when he sees that their booth isn’t in an ideal location, the demo door hasn’t shown up and there’s another booth there with a fancier setup and a knock off of the Slamigan – the Halli Hammer. Cruz is disheartened at first, but thanks to the support of his 51 family, he’s able to steer attention away from the knockoff towards his product and ends up ahead with an influx of orders. (It helps that the knock off product doesn’t do so well during the demo too.) Also on FIRE, a young new hotshot lieutenant from OFI pays Severide a visit in an attempt to offer him a job. He politely turns her down saying that Squad is his home. The OFI newbie warns him that she doesn’t give up so easily and the next thing you know, Boden is receiving transfer papers for Severide to OFI! When Severide goes to confront her, it turns out that she didn’t organise it – the orders came from Commissioner Grissom! So then Severide goes to confront him. By the end of their conversation, Severide has agreed to help OFI clear their backlog of cases, but not before calling in a favor from Grissom first.

As mentioned earlier, Herrmann faces off against a police officer and it ends up with the officer filing a complaint against Herrmann. If the conduct and becoming charges go on Herrmann’s permanent record, he looks at losing his lieutenant ranking. After seeking advice from P.D.‘s Burgess (and being disappointed with what she had to say), Herrmann tries to clear the air with the officer but no luck. Herrmann starts doubting himself and whether it’s a sign that he shouldn’t have the lieutenant position, but in a sweet scene, Severide tells him that he is where he is meant to be. At the end of the episode while at Molly’s, Herrmann receives a phone call to inform him that the charges have been dropped. Yep, this was the bargaining chip that Severide used with Grissom!

Couples Chatter

There was a lot happening in the romance department on the latest episode of MED! Let’s start off with fan faves “Chexton” aka Dr Ethan Choi and April Sexton. Ethan is super keen to have a baby with April – he’s created a fertility chart to track her cycle, he’s making frittatas for breakfast because they’re meant to be good for ovarian health. Meanwhile, April thought they were taking a laissez faire approach. Alarm bells are already ringing for us. Lo and behold, it’s not long before friction occurs between the lovebirds. The two are treating a military patient together and disagree with how to handle the patient. April agrees to respect the patient’s wishes, while Ethan goes behind their back and gets the army involved. April accuses him of being overzealous when it comes to anything involving the military and tells him that the way things turned out didn’t have to happen if he had just listened. They turn up separately to the staff crawfish boil and just as April goes to leave (more on that in a sec), Ethan shows up and apologizes. He admits that he can be a hardass sometimes and has trouble stepping back, with both professional and personal matters. He tells April that he loves her and that he needs to respect her wishes about plans to have a baby. He tells her he has gotten rid of the chart and they make up, but you can tell that April feels guilty by the look on her face as they embrace.

Why does April feel guilty? Prior to Ethan showing up, she and Crockett had a moment at the party. He was leaning in to kiss her and while nothing happened, she took her sweet time backing away. Coupled with the flirting, him doing favors for her after a 14 hour shift – “I can refuse you nothing”, it’s only a matter of time before Ethan notices the sparks if he hasn’t already! Speaking of sparks, sparks are flying for Maggie at the last place she expected – during chemo! A “fine as hell” guy according to Cece, is all flirty and charming with Maggie. So much so that she accepts his offer to hang out after their chemo round and even brings him to the crawfish boil that she and Crockett organised. It’s nice to see Maggie smile, but we hope this doesn’t end in heartbreak for her!

Other romance updates on MED – Dr Charles and Cece are still in their honeymoon phase, with her playing her dying card to bump them to the top of a 3-month reservation list at an exclusive restaurant. (He’s impressed.) Dr Manning is ignoring Dr Halstead after last week’s “I want you out of my life” declaration – something that both Maggie and Sharon notice. Last but not least, we’re not sure what to make of the final scene between Elsa and Will. Are they just being friendly and polite colleagues or is the show setting them up to be something more? No offence, but these doctors need to date outside of the hospital! If there’s anything that Will and Natalie saga has taught me, it’s to be wary of getting involved with a colleague because look what happens when it all goes to hell – it gets hella awkward!

CHICAGO FIRE — “Welcome to Crazytown” Episode 807 — Pictured: Kara Killmer as Sylvie Brett — (Photo by: Adrian Burrows/NBC)

On FIRE, there were interesting vibes between Casey and Brett this episode. When Brett tells Kidd and Foster that Ryan, the social worker from earlier in the season, has told her that Isaac (the kid that she and Foster helped in that same episode) is being released, an eavesdropping Casey refers to Ryan as “the guy you’re dating” to Brett. She gets defensive and refutes his remarks saying it was one drink. When Casey leaves, Brett remarks that it was weird of her to get all defensive about it. (Stop denying what’s there y’all!) After a call where Brett helped keep two kids calm during a hostage situation, Casey is complimenting her on how she handled the kids when Ryan shows up. (Way to interrupt the moment, Ryan!) With Isaac now back at home with his mother, Ryan wants to take Brett to lunch as a thank you. She tells him it’s not necessary but he insists, leaving her confused as to whether this is a date or not. When she confides in Kidd and Foster, they have conflicting opinions. Ryan’s intentions are made clear when he tries to kiss her at the end of their lunch. He apologizes for misreading the situation and she awkwardly tells him she thought it was friendly rather than romantic since it was a daytime event. Bless you Brett. She later tells the girls that she doesn’t just want a sweet guy – she wants the one. Aww, ever the hopeless romantic! (We feel you though, Brett.) At Molly’s, Casey asks Brett how things are going with her “non boyfriend” and she chides him for being mean. The mood shifts when he tells her “My money is on you finding exactly what you want ‘cos it’s what you deserve.” Oh the slow burn between these two!

All is still good on the Stellaride front, with a particularly sweet moment at the end of the episode, where Severide tells Kidd that as long as he gets to come home to her after work, he can deal with where he’s transferred too. After spending the episode lamenting that she’s unlucky because she never wins anything with scratch tickets etc, she declares “I am without a doubt, the luckiest girl in the world.”

CHICAGO P.D.- “Informant” Episode 707 — Pictured: Jesse Lee Soffer as Det. Jay Halstead, Tracy Spiridakos as Det. Hailey Upton — (Photo by: Matt Dinerstein/NBC)

As usual, P.D. was light on the couple front, but we’re sure that Upstead shippers were delighted when Halstead turned up to a scene with a coffee for Upton because it was habit. Later when she’s riled up about Darius, he tells her “Hailey, I’d follow you anywhere, but I know right now you’d tell me to trust Voight”, showing how much these two trust and look out for each other.

Crossover Count

It was just P.D.‘s Burgess popping up on FIRE to give Herrmann some advice after his run in with the cop. It turns out, she’s not a fan of the cop either and calls the guy a “beefer”. She advises Herrmann to appeal to the cop’s sense of victimhood and extend an olive branch. Herrmann says he’s rather ask Voight to wrap the cop in duct tape and stick him in a car boot instead. Ha!
