ONE CHICAGO: CHICAGO MED “Got a Friend in Me”, CHICAGO FIRE “Buckle Up” and CHICAGO P.D. “Brother’s Keeper” Episode Round-Up

By  |

Five weeks into the new ONE CHICAGO seasons and there’s certainly a lot of tension and secrets. Before new episodes of CHICAGO MEDCHICAGO FIRE and CHICAGO P.D. air tonight, catch up on what went down in the ONE CHICAGO world last week.

The Rookies

It was all about the young ones looking up to the more experienced seniors in most cases. On MED we had Noah Sexton eagerly following Dr Marcel and in awe of how the surgery doc does his business. Something that Dr Choi wasn’t a fan of and tried to offer his girlfriend’s brother advice. Should Dr Choi ease up on the more carefree doctor? April seems to be coming around to him… On FIRE, we had Ritter and Gallo admiring the way Mouch handled a situation during a call. You could tell that these young firefighters have a lot of respect for their older colleagues. It was really cute to watch. Also, can we please get more scenes of these two bonding and learning together? On P.D., Ruzek and Atwater encounter a training officer berating a young patrol rookie. Atwater warns Ruzek not to cause a scene but Ruzek really doesn’t like the way the young officer is being treated and says as much to the training officer. Let’s just say it causes some problems for Intelligence later…

Leap Into Action

There was a lot of leaping into situations in the ONE CHICAGO world last week. Some good, some bad; some major, some minor. On MED, we had Dr Marcel and Noah Sexton overstepping and interfering with a patient that Dr Choi was treating. Marcel and Choi had differing opinions on how to treat the patient and Dr Marcel pretty much poached the patient from Dr Choi. The confident and also arrogant doctor was right in the end, so at least it wasn’t all in vain. Speaking of questionable actions, Dr Manning was treating a young boy who came in with a nose bleed and she ends up being convinced that he could have pneumonia. The parents of the child are all about holistic remedies and are anti antibiotics. Manning keeps on pushing at them to the point where they want her off their son’s case. Natalie becomes to worked up that the end of the episode become very dramatic when she locks herself in the room with the patient so she can give him the medication without the parents’ consent. We totally got crazed Nanny Carrie vibes from that scene (aka the deranged nanny that actress Torrey DeVitto played on One Tree Hill, one of her breakout roles in her career) and honestly have no idea how she is going to come back from this. Those actions are surely going to have serious consequences for her career!

In contrast, over on FIRE we had Mouch starting a newsletter called ‘The Burn Notice’ to keep the firehouse informed about what’s happening around them, only for Brett to take control and various members of 51 wanting to contribute, like Foster with not-so blind items. Brett ends up letting the power go to her head and either vetoing or changing everyone’s contributions and in the end Boden bans ‘The Burn Notice’. Mouch is also involved in a more serious matter when he suggests during a call to get a nearby tow truck to help them with a terrible car wreck. It was a smart and unorthodox move that ends up saving lives, but the city representatives don’t see it that way and reprimand him. (Is one of the requirements for working for the city of Chicago to be an a$$hole? Between this guy and the guy representing the mayor’s office last episode, we’re beginning to wonder!) Later, Mouch goes to visit the person they rescued and they confirm if it hadn’t been for Mouch, the victim might not have been so lucky. Yay, a win for Mouch and also a storyline! In relation to the car wreck, a similar incident happens again during the episode and detective Kelly Severide is on the case. He deduces that the tow truck driver is involved and has no fear in following him and confronting him. So ballsy!

Also on FIRE, Kidd is attending the leadership conference. She appears to be one of two females there and when she goes to introduce herself to the other woman, she gets the brush off. However, Kidd shows off her smarts during the conference and ends up earning the respect of the other attendees, to the point where the other woman nominates Kidd as leader for one of their activities. Not bad Kidd, especially when it turns out that you’re the only non-officer at the conference. There looks like there could be a title in your future though if this conference is anything to go by!

CHICAGO P.D. — “Brother’s Keeper” Episode 705 — Pictured: (l-r) Patrick John Flueger as Officer Adam Ruzek, Jason Beghe as Sgt. Hank Voight — (Photo by: Matt Dinerstein/NBC)

Over on P.D., we mentioned before that Ruzek doesn’t see eye to eye with a fellow cop from their district. Throughout the episode Voight asks Ruzek if he has a handle on the situation and Ruzek assures his boss that he has it under control. Maybe not thought – the tension results in Intelligence not having backup from patrol while out on the street. Platt ends up having to step in to try and maintain the peace. She makes a comment about the situation being above her paygrade and we can see why – at the end of the episode, it’s revealed that the officer who has beef with Ruzek wants to settle it by fighting Ruzek in an alleyway. How it all ends, we have no clue as the episode left us hanging on Voight taking Ruzek to meet the fellow officer…

We Are Family

Family was also a common theme in the ONE CHICAGO world last week. On MED, Maggie is still keeping her cancer a secret from everyone but her colleagues are noticing her odd behavior. Dr Charles’ wife CeeCee shows up while she’s undergoing chemo and gives Maggie a good dose of sass to make her realise that she needs to share the diagnosis with others and let the community be there for her and give her strength. In a powerful non-verbal scene, Maggie sees April, Doris and Monique in the car park and takes off her wig in front of them without saying a word. They then reach out to her with their hands and rally around her to show their support. There were no words, just gestures. It was truly powerful to watch. Also powerful was the scene at the start of the episode where Maggie is at home brushing her hair and some of it falls out. Again, another scene with no diagloue. Marlyne Barrett, who plays Maggie, conveys so much through her expressions and movement!

On FIRE, we see another of Hermann’s sons. This one is interested in following in his father’s footsteps. However, when he goes to a party where a classmate is injured and he sees his dad and Foster save the kid’s life, we were getting vibes that maybe he might be interested in becoming a paramedic. This could be us speculating though. Then on P.D., the case that Intelligence were working on involved a teenager seeing his uncle get shot, and then his father trying to protect him when it was revealed that the teen shot his uncle’s killer as revenge. I actually thought the father was involved with the uncle’s death, so I was glad to be proven wrong!

Couples Chatter

On MED, Dr Charles and CeeCee are being all cute and flirty at the start of the episode. Call me a pessimist, but seeing them all loved up and happy right now leaves me with a bad feeling that things are not going to end well for these two. We’ll worry about that later though. CeeCee takes it upon herself to play matchmaker with Goodwin and her ex husband Bert. She deliberately doesn’t share her plans with Dr Charles and he is horrified when he clues on, saying that he doesn’t think it’s a bad idea – he thinks it’s an atrocious one! Things seem to be going well with Ethan and April, while things are still not great with Natalie and Will. They definitely make me think twice about dating someone you work with – things are SO awkward and tense with them!

Over on FIRE, Severide is still being a supportive partner to Kidd, and if Foster’s not-so blind items are anything to go by, ‘Stellaride’ are still enjoying being all loved up around the firehouse… Last week we saw Chloe break up with Cruz before he was going to propose. This week, Brett meets up with her (turns out the two are friends and attend the same spin class) and gets the lowdown on why Chloe broke up with Cruz. Turns out Chloe has been spending a lot of time with Lily, aka Otis’ girlfriend and watching Lily go through losing Otis had Chloe scared of losing Cruz. Thankfully Brett manages to convince Chloe that this is no way to live and she can’t let that fear stop her from being happy. Taking Brett’s advice on board, Chloe goes to see Cruz with cake pops that spell out ‘Ask Me’. He proposes and she accepts! Also on FIRE, we get to see Mouch and Platt at home and heading out on a date night. Aww!

P.D. had no romance and no follow up on what went down with Burgess and Ruzek last week. Unless, do we read his need for more coffee as a sign that there was a late night with Burgess? We can only speculate until we have actual proof!

Crossover Count

This week, it was just P.D. characters popping up on FIRE – Jay Halstead showed up to arrest the dodgy tow truck guy and Platt was there to give us a quick glimpse of Mouch’s home life outside of 51.

The ONE CHICAGO line up airs Wednesday nights on NBC; beginning with CHICAGO MED, followed by CHICAGO FIRE and concluding with CHICAGO P.D..
