National Volunteer Month Profile: Stephen Amell

By  |

April is National Volunteer Month, so we are showcasing a few of our favorite actors and actresses and their work towards bettering the world around them.

Stephen Amell is basically the Father of the DC TV universe. His show, Arrow, debuted on the CW way back in 2012, quickly becoming a hit and paving the way for more superheroes to find a home on the network.

Since donning the green hood, Stephen has used his profile to raise awareness and money for a variety of causes. His annual F*ck Cancer original t-shirt design is a hot commodity, with proceeds benefitting F*ck Cancer, a charity focusing on prevention (Prevent), early detection (Detect) and, supporting those affected by cancer (Unite). He is a vocal advocate for the organization and regularly shouts out those fighting cancer on social media to lift their spirits. In May 2017, Stephen hosted the first ever F*ck Cancer event in London, honoring his mom, Sandra, who is a cancer survivor.

Although fighting cancer receives most of his attention, in 2015, Stephen launched a new charity campaign called “Sinceriously.” The purpose of the campaign is to spread positive ideas and actions with complete honesty. Followers can support the campaign by purchasing  “Sinceriously” t-shirts, with proceeds benefitting Stand for Silent and Paws & Stripes. Stand for Silent is an anti-bullying advocacy group, while Paws & Stripes is a non-profit that pairs service dogs with wounded military veterans.

Props to Stephen for using his celebrity status to draw awareness to such worthy causes. To learn more about the organizations he supports, click the links above.

Be sure to check back in this month as we highlight other actors and actresses who use their platforms for good!
