Giving Thanks for TV

By  |

As our readers have (hopefully) been noticing over the last couple weeks, we have been posting our annual Thanksvember articles, stating what each of us here at NiceGirlsTV are thankful for this year.

Castle Season 7

Each TV season presents viewers with a plethora of new and returning shows to enjoy as well as plenty of entertaining mini-series and made-for-TV movies to watch. And while I provided a handful of my top favorites for this TV season to that series of articles, those aren’t the only TV-related items for which I am thankful.

Here is the rest of my list:

Reign Costumes

Castle – This Nathan Fillion-Stana Katic-led drama has been on ABC for 7 seasons now and after a failed attempt at a wedding in the May season finale, fans were finally rewarded with Castle and Beckett exchanging vows two weeks ago. As a big fan of the show, I can only hope that the show will continue on for several more seasons, making it one of the network’s most successful shows. Wouldn’t that be awesome?

Once Upon a Time

Reign and Once Upon a Time – Regardless of your impression of either show, can we just take a moment to “Sigh” over the costuming on both dramas. Reign easily is one of the best dressed shows on the small screen right now. I mean, c’mon?!, those gowns that the lead girls wear – OMG! And that comes from someone who would much rather wear pajama pants and t-shirts every day of the year. And with four years under its belt, Once Upon a Time still does not fail where its costuming is concerned.

The Good Witch's Wonder

The Good Witch – The franchise of Hallmark Channel movies starring Catherine Bell (of JAG and Army Wives fame) got started in 2008 and has aired one movie each year with the most recent airing last month in time for Halloween. And starting next February the movie franchise will become a weekly TV series that will include Bailee Madison from Once Upon a Time and the recent Northpole movie) and Jamie Denton (Desperate Housewives).

The CW Logo

The CW – This is the network that the major four like to think of as the bastard brother no one wants around – it’s been that way since they were UPN and The WB back in the day. Some things don’t change, but let’s give credit where credit is due. The folks at The CW have been consistently delivering high octane shows like Arrow and The Flash, charmers like Hart of Dixie, fan favorites like Supernatural and laugh-out-loud dramedies like Jane the Virgin for the past eight TV seasons. I know I enjoy watching nearly all of the one-hour dramas that the network currently airs.

Bitten Living Room

Bitten – This Syfy series, which calls Space (the Canadian network) its home – debuted in January and quickly became a guilty pleasure for me. Based on the book franchise by Kelley Armstrong, Bitten focuses on Elena Michaels (Laura Vandervoort from Smallville and V), the world’s only female werewolf, who is trying to led her own life outside of her Pack. But when tragedy strikes her Pack, she is called back to Toronto from upper New York State to deal with what happened. The chemistry between Elena and her former love (and the man who turned her) Clay Danvers (Greyston Holt from Alcatraz and Durham County) is the best part of the show; and I look forward to the second season next year.

What have been your favorite shows, mini-series and/or movies to air on TV this year? Please share.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our readers who celebrate the holiday!
