What to Expect on TV in April
March is only a few days old, but it’s time to take a look at what’s ahead for our TV viewing pleasure on the major and cable networks – in terms of dramas and made-for-TV movies, that is – for next month.
Here is the list of the programs I am most looking forward to in April:
The Syfy drama Continuum will return for its third season on April 4 at 10 PM. It will be great to see what happens next with Kiera, Carlos and Alec especially after all that happened in last season’s final episode.
Then on April 6, Game of Thrones will be back for an all-new, sure-to-be-intense season on HBO at 9 PM while the 90-minute series debut of the new AMC period drama Turn will debut at 9 PM. [All I can say is thank God for the DVR!] Turn, by the way, is set in the summer of 1778 and tells the story of New York farmer Abe Woodhull (Billy Elliott’s Jamie Bell), who bands together with a group of childhood friends to form The Culper Ring, an unlikely group of spies who turn the tide in America’s fight for independence.
A little over a week later on April 14, the finale season of the fan favorite Syfy series Warehouse 13 will start at 9 PM. This will be our last chance to see Myka, Pete, Claudia, Jinks and Artie in action; and hopefully the writers have written the show out in grand style.
The second season of the highly acclaimed BBC America series Orphan Black will air at 9 PM. While the show has been virtually overlooked by the major awards shows (shame on you Emmys!), it has not been overlooked by the viewers, making Tatiana Maslany almost a household name (or at least she should be); and viewers chomping at the bit to find out what happens next with all of those clones.
Switching gears to a more horror-laced storyline will be the new period piece drama Salem that will debut on WGN America (check your cable listing for what channel this airs on in your region) on April 20 at 10 PM. The series will revolve around the infamous trials of witches in Salem, Massachusetts in the 17th century. Folks will want to tune in for this show as it includes some pretty cool cast members including Janet Montgomery (Human Target), Shane West (Nikita), Seth Gabel (Fringe and Arrow), Ashley Madekwe (Revenge) and Xander Berkeley (Nikita).
That same night (April 20) there are two other big events happening over on Lifetime and the Hallmark Channel. The second season of the much-buzzed-about drama Devious Maids will air its season premiere on Lifetime at 10 PM; while over on the Hallmark Channel the new series Signed, Sealed, Delivered – based on last year’s movie of the same name – will make it series debut at 8 PM. This series follows the lives of four postal workers (including Ugly Betty’s Eric Mabius) who transform themselves into an untraditional team of detectives to track down intended recipients of undeliverable mail.
Lastly, on April 24, the new ABC drama Black Box will debut at 10 PM. The series stars Sherlock Holmes alum Kelly Reilly as Catherine Black, a world-famous neurologist at the state-of-the-art medical institution known as “The Cube”. She’s a brilliant doctor hiding a secret: she’s bipolar. Each week the doctors on staff attempt to unravel the mysterious of the brain and constantly challenging cases. I don’t usually like shows centered around the medical profession, but I’ll give this one a shot at the very least, but if the lead characters turns into a female version of House then I might have to depart.
Of course, these aren’t the only programming options coming to the small screen in April, but these are the ones that I’ll be looking forward to most. Do you have anything coming on TV next month for which you are anticipating? Please share.
