Happy New Year 2012
It is that time of year again: it is almost the start of another new year. Did you meet the resolutions you made for this current year? If not, you only have four more days to make a difference.
Are you making any resolutions for the New Year? Are they resolutions that you can easily master or will they be a bit more difficult or time-consuming? How about making a resolution to watch something new or different on TV next year?
We here at NiceGirlsTV are always striving to inform our readers about great programming that is available and with the new year just a few days away, I wanted to take the time to point out a couple shows that, if you aren’t already watching, you just might want to check them out.
You could say this is a call to arms (so to speak), asking our readers to resolve to watch something outside of the norm. Here are the suggestions:
1. Being Erica – This Canadian hit series has just completed its fourth (and presumed final) season with the viewers in the United States waiting patiently to find out when and on which network that season will air. The series follows Erica Strange (Erin Karpluk) a thirtysomething who begins seeing a therapist to deal with regrets in her life, only to discover the therapist, Dr. Tom (Michael Riley), has the ability to send her back in time to actually relive these events and even change them.
2. Drop Dead Diva – The premise of this popular Lifetime dramedy sounds implausible – a vapid, aspiring model, Deb, is killed in a car crash and as her soul enters the gates of Heaven, she finds herself declared a “zero-zero” (meaning she has performed zero good deeds and zero bad deeds during her time on earth; she is simply shallow). Not liking what she hears, she presses for a return to her former body, hoping to get back to Earth. But instead she is brought back to life in the body of a recently deceased, brilliant, hardworking, full-figured lawyer named Jane. But, thanks to the incredible performance by lead actress Brooke Elliott (who plays Jane), the rest of the talented cast and showrunner/series creator Josh Berman, the show comes to life in very unexpected ways. The show completed its third season this past summer with a fourth season ordered by the network in September.
3. Lost Girl – This is another popular Canadian series with a supernatural twist that is currently in its second season. Viewers in the United States will get initiated into the show when its first season begins to air on Syfy starting on January 16. And, the show has been picked up for a third season in Canada, which will air sometime in 2012. The series follows the life of a succubus named Bo (Anna Silk) as she learns to control her abilities, help those in need and discover the truth about her origins within the mysterious Fae, an ever-expanding community of supernatural beings most of whom live right alongside humans.
Each of these shows previous seasons can be found on DVD or online, so please check them out and judge for yourself. And most of all, resolve to pass along shows that you love to your friends, family and co-workers, oh, and to us here at NiceGirlsTV because we are always looking for fun, new shows to watch.
Happy New Year!
Artist Spotlight: The artist spotlight for this month is shone on Kerrie Kordowski, who is a costume designer and artisan/founder of Opal Moon Designs.
Kerrie is originally from New York, but moved to San Francisco in 1999. She was creatively invigorated by the colors and textures of the city and its surroundings quickly becoming active in the local artist and underground music/dance community. She began making costumes for sci-fi shows, festivals, and the Burning Man community soon finding herself enrolled in the Fashion Design program at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM).
After graduation, she was one of four students accepted into FIDM’s third-year Advanced Study Program in Theatre Costume in Los Angeles and was awarded the Alex Rolden Scholarship for her talents. Since then, Kerrie has relocated to Los Angeles and is a working costume designer for the film and music industry, while also designing for her own label “Opal Moon”.
Kerrie has chiefly been inspired by ancient mythology and science fiction, describing her style as: “Tribal Sci-Fi“. To further develop this concept she draws from her personal experiences in film, electronic music and most recently tribal fusion belly dance. Her designs compliment dancers and performers of all types on or off the stage. Used more simply, pieces are extremely versatile so they can be worn by anyone who desires fashion-forward street-wear for day or evening. Each garment and costume accouterment is handmade in her downtown Los Angeles studio. Each piece is not only created with superb quality and craftsmanship, but also labeled either “One-of-a-Kind” or of a “Limited Edition” to ensure originality.
Kerrie is a proud member of the Costume Designers Guild-Local 892. She has over 10 years of experiences in the film industry, including all genres of contemporary, futuristic and period pieces. Kerrie’s mission and vision is “to transform and empower the woman who wears Opal Moon instilling strength, beauty, form and function.”
Her sample piece is the Morrigan Brocade Tribal Fusion Underbust Vest/Harness with detachable hood from Kerrie’s “Solstice Gypsy” collection from this past spring/summer. This piece is medieval-inspired and is perfect to wear with any tribal/fusion bellydance, gothic or steampunk look. It is lightweight and perfect for indoors or outdoors. The vest and hood consist of a “snake-skin” inspired patterned brocade in black on the outside and the lining is a luxurious taffeta in either gold or green stripe. Both the vest and hood are fully lined and fused for structure and durability. This sample piece had been on Kerrie’s mind for a very long time and she states it is “a little bit of Post-Apocalyptic-Gypsy-Nomad fused with Medieval-Robin Hood” inspired. You can see more sample pictures of Kerrie’s piece here.

She also sells her specialty pieces at Ceiba Store in San Francisco on Haight Street for which you can learn more about here.
