Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist: “Zoey’s Extraordinary Memory”

By  |

After a winter hiatus that lasted about a month and a half, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist was back with a new episode from its second season this week. Let’s first find out what this episode was about.

Here is a synopsis for this week’s episode entitled “Zoey’s Extraordinary Memory:”

Zoey’s effort to re-create a cherished memory with Mitch is thwarted by Leif; Max and Mo have their big restaurant opening.

Join Nice Girls Roz, Karen, and Rueben as they share their thoughts on this latest, new episode of the second season [spoiler alert]:

Roz:

This attempt to recreate a memory with Mitch for Zoey resonates with me so much. I think there’s a reason we always want to go back to something so special. I’d love to go back and have moments with my grandfather, but if I tried again it’d fail just like Zoey’s did.

It says so much about her friends at the end that they all made the trip to the mountains with her.

In another way, I think there’s something interesting to be said about both the Fire Inspector and Max’s old girlfriend.

One last comment, is them all singing “Give A Little Bit” the first time we haven’t had a heart song? That song in the car felt like such an organic moment for them all to sing that. (from Karen: do you count Leif singing ‘All By Myself?’ 😆)

Karen:

This week, one of my clients recorded an episode of her podcast that spurred a memory for me. A memory of my mother and I attending a women’s conference when I was a teenager. Such a weird coincidence, and it made this episode of Zoey’s super special for me. I was glad she got her new tradition with her found family. Even if it did include Leif and Tobin.

Speaking of which, Tobin had a bit of a redemption in this one. Mind you, he’s still super irritating, but the fact that he got excited to see the shower was pretty cool. And McKenzie got more than one line! (a bit of sarcasm there) If they don’t do a story with more of the girl programmers this season, I’ll be really disappointed.

MaxiMo’s opened! What a great little number when people started pouring in. ‘Let’s Get Loud’ was a fabulous choice. Fire Marshal Haskins… yum, amirite? Anybody else think he and Mo had some sparks? Yes? Okay then. Speaking of sparks, Max and Rose, a girl he went to camp with, shows up. I’m changing my alliances all the time, and this week I was in the #TeamSimon camp. I’d be okay if Max and Rose had a fling for sure. So cute! And Simon was magnetic in the small time we saw him. Although my prevailing hope is that Zoey becomes happy without a man for a while.

I’ve warmed to Leif this season, so it hurt a bit to see his date turn out to be such a… can we just say ‘crapfest’? I want to call her some names, but I’ll keep those in my head for now. Zoey might want to give up on the matchmaking. The upside is that it seems he’s getting over Joan, so that’s something.

David trying to join up with Aiden’s band was pretty ‘meh’ for me. Pretty forgettable. I enjoyed his heartsong though. ‘Drift Away’ is a classic. Side note: I’ve been watching Lucifer and I literally JUST saw the episode where Andrew Leeds (David) plays a murderer. Disconcerting.

All in all, a solid episode. I dug it.

Rueben:

Finally an episode that I like! It felt like, after a few episodes that I didn’t warm up to all that much, that we got a winner. I loved David singing his heartsong; I loved the group number at MaxiMo’s and yes, the singing in the car was such a treat. Just Zoey and the boys having some fun! [Can I just say that I laughed when Zoey said “this is hell” when she was in the car with Leif and Tobin? Of all the people to head out with her for the meteor shower it was them?!]

Yes, I loved the flirting between Simon and Zoey – I feel like you, Karen, that I’m #TeamSimon for right now. And, I’m okay with the flirting between Rose and Max. He deserves to have someone who adored him when he was still a nerdy kid. And yes, I loved the interaction between Mo and the Fire Marshal. There was definitely something simmering there!! And can I just say how DIVINE Mo looked at the opening. Loved that dress!! The whole decor inside MaxiMo’s was just stunning, right?

As for Aiden and his band accepting David into their group and that whole part of the episode…yeah, that was kinda “meh” except for the singing. Aiden was eye candy at the end of the season premiere, but now I’m just getting bored with him. What purpose does he really serve?

It was great that the guys and McKenzie showed up for Zoey at the end to create a new memory for Zoey. It was nice to see Zoey happy giving the bittersweet moments she experienced throughout the episode. Speaking of McKenzie, just like Karen said, I want to see more of the girl programmers. They deserve some screen time!!

I’m actually looking forward to next week’s episode, and I couldn’t say that during the first half of the season.
