Passionflix’s A BROTHER’S HONOR: A Review and Experience

By  |

The other week I had the pleasure to see Passionflix‘s newest movie A Brother’s Honor with the cast, crew and fans in attendance at a film lot in Los Angeles.

A Brother’s Honor is based on Brenda Jackson’s first book in the Grangers series, featuring three brothers who are faced with big changes in their lives after the death of their grandfather. The brothers had all left their ancestral home in Virginia, but as their grandfather’s health failed, they promised to return and take over the failing family business, Granger Aeronautics.

The oldest brother, Jace (Jeremy Batiste), takes the lead but is soon overwhelmed with problems plaguing the company. He hires Shana (Celestine Rae) to find out what’s wrong with the firm, adding an unexpected element to his life. Further complicating matters, the brothers band together to find out who really killed their mother and try to free their father, Sheppard, who is serving a 30-year prison sentence for her murder.

A Brother’s Honor is the first in a planned series of films from Passionflix that will explore the Grangers, their lives, their loves, and the mystery of their mother’s death.

The movie is what you expect from a romance novel turned into a movie. It follows a predictable plot, but the cast is engaging and the overall story is compelling. Family dynamics are always ripe for drama, and these three brothers are committed to making this new life work for them.

After watching Jace and Shana’s stories, I know there are more stories for the other two brothers and their respective relationships (I think I saw where one of them will go and it’s so good!), but for now, this story is a great start.

It can be awkward to see a movie containing sex scenes with the actors in the room, but the actors spoke about how supportive the whole process was thanks to the presence so many women involved every step of the way, from the top executives to the director to many of the crew members. The absence of the male gaze is notable and welcome.

I enjoyed spending the evening with the close-knit cast and seeing so many dedicated fans come together for the premiere. The Passionflix fans were dressed to the nines and happy to chat with the cast as they arrived at the event.

On the red carpet, I was able to talk to a few of the people involved in making the movie. Tosca Musk, Passionflix co-founder and producer, was a delight. She was thrilled to talk about the founding of Passionflix and her vision for sexy films with stories told from the female gaze, a unique perspective in media.

Author Brenda Jackson regaled us with the fun she had visiting the Florida set to see her books come to life.

Star Celestine Rae talks about how her character, Shana, impacts the story in a non-traditional way.

Star Jeremy Batiste talks about his connection with the cast and the diversity on set.

See all of our interviews with the cast and creative team of A Brother’s Honor on our YouTube channel. (Fun fact: One of the actors, Thomas Hobson, is a friend from high school! It’s always great to see him in new projects.)

A Brother’s Honor is now streaming on Passionflix.
