THE GOOD PLACE Roundtable: Tinker, Tailor, Demon, Spy

By  |

The Good Place continues its final season with a brand new episode this week. Check out our thoughts below.

Uncertainty abounds when an unexpected visitor arrives

We’re going to divide our thoughts on this episode into three self-explanatory categories – The Good Place, The Medium Place, and The Bad Place, plus a final category for favorite quotes or overall thoughts.

The Good Place

Cay: I loved this twist – so clever! And it explains why Janet has been so weird the last few episodes when she seemed to handle everything fine with the neighborhood in the original iteration in season 1.

Roz: Shawn is a wonderful foil and I do love how to see him attempt to subvert the whole process. Also Janet’s list of struggles with the horse drawing. Also Jason for the win at realization that Janet wasn’t the real one we’ve come to know and love.

Christie: Quite a twist! I’m glad though because we needed something different so far this season.

Also — Michael has so assimilated to the group that he feels embarrassed by his demon form and is worried what they will think. That’s so sweet!

And the fact that social media CEO is a stage of demon, these days, seems so spot on.

And the fact that not only did Jason figure Janet out, he remembered how to trap her! He’s such a special boy.

Bad Place

Cay:  Haha, could the official network synopsis: “Uncertainty abounds when an unexpected visitor arrives” be more vague!? I feel like they could have done better than that. Otherwise, I don’t have much for the Bad Place this time because while the plot was painful for the viewer, it was also pretty awesome as twists go! They could have made the suspense a little bit stronger as to whether Michael was Michael or Vicky, but it’s not like any of us wanted him/believed him to be Vicky anyway.

Roz: I could have done without Derek and all the sex toys. It was fine the first time, but this one just seemed over the top and awkward.

Christie: I got nothing. This was a great episode.

The Medium Place

Cay: I could have done without all the gross food references – they felt like they didn’t necessarily fit with previous info we’ve gotten about the Bad Place. Last season, for example, they were just eating crappy bagels at the museum opening – nothing actually gross (maybe it’s a matter of perspective?) like pig urine.

Roz: This Michael and Jason go to The Bad Place isn’t going to end well.

Christie: If Mindy is in the medium place, and she can only get one movie (Cannonball Run II), how the HELL is she able to get so many sex toys?! Even with Derek to help, there should be something to stop her from requesting them.

Final Thoughts & Quotes We Loved

Cay: I can only imagine what hilarity will ensue with a Jason-Michael rescue mission!

My favorite quote: “I have tentacles. There’s teeth everywhere. I’m on fire, and my neck is long. And there’s a smell, and lots of juice. There’s so much juice, Eleanor.”  – Michael, describing his actual form  SO.MUCH.JUICE!

Roz: I’m all for this next episode, but I got nothing in the quote department right now.

Christie: “Why don’t we just get him drunk so he starts blabbing. I mean, what goes best with pig urine?” “Coconut rum.” Hah!

And I can’t wait to see how Jason and Michael pull this off!
