ONE CHICAGO Fall Finale Cliffhangers

By  |

It’s been over six weeks since we were last in Dick Wolf’s ONE CHICAGO world and with so much happening, one would be forgiven if you needed a refresher on where we left off. Before CHICAGO MEDCHICAGO FIRE and CHICAGO P.D. all return this week, brush up on the big moments from the fall finales that have left us hanging. We’re going to need resolutions stat!

CHICAGO MED

1. Will April tell Ethan that she kissed Crockett?

After finding out that she has a condition that makes it difficult to conceive and then fighting with Ethan (who was about to ship out for a mission after being called up), April kisses Crockett. Will she tell Ethan about kissing Crockett as well as her fertility issues when he returns? If she does, how will he react? We know that April loves Ethan but what exactly are her feelings for Crockett? Also, how will Crockett behave after their kiss – will he be a gentleman and say nothing and will he stir the pot a bit and have April on edge?

2. Is there no hope for Will and Natalie?

Natalie finally got her memories back from the night of the T-bone incident and remembered her feelings for Will. She rushed to tell him, only for him to tell her that since she told him to get out of her life, he moved on and can now see that they were never good for each other. She pleads with him and tells him that she loves him but he stands firm. Sure he’s saying no to a romantic relationship but how about friendship? Can they go back to being friends like they used to be back in season one? (Minus the pining of course.)

3. Will Maggie’s chemotherapy work and will she find happiness with Ben?

In the fall finale, Maggie’s new beau was on his deathbed after contracting an infection from the measles. Just when things weren’t looking great, his health took a turn for the better and he managed to beat the infection. Now that they’ve overcome that hurdle, can the pair beat their battles with cancer together? Maggie deserves some happiness!

4. How will Dr Charles go on without CeeCee?

Pictured: (l-r) Paula Newsome as Caroline Charles, Oliver Platt as Dr. Daniel Charles — (Photo by: Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)

Things were not looking great for Dr Charles and his wife CeeCee. Her health took a turn for the worst and the pair hosted a party to give her a chance to say goodbye to loved ones (including their daughter Robyn) before the pair left town to for a “holiday”. Really, this was for CeeCee to pass away without her loved ones watching on and remembering her in a more delicate condition. We’re going to assume that the next time we see Dr Charles, CeeCee would have passed, so how will he cope with losing his wife after reconnecting just months ago?

CHICAGO FIRE

1. Will Severide make it out unharmed after confronting the arsonist? Also, how much longer will he remain at OFI?

The closing moments of the CHICAGO FIRE fall finale saw Severide encounter an arsonist that the OFI team had been trying to track. The arsonist was not exactly the most friendliest guy and was about to set another fire when Severide showed up. Can Severide talk him down? If not, we’re not sure if he’s going to get out of there unharmed if the perpetrator sets the place alight!

Assuming that Severide comes out of the above situation unscathed, the next question we have is when will Commissioner Grissom be satisfied with Severide’s stint at OFI and let him return to 51. We miss seeing him on squad and are a bit suspicious about his OFI colleague and the way she eyes him…

2. Are we still going to see a Brett and Casey slowburn?

Pictured: Kara Killmer as Sylvie Brett and Jesse Spencer as Matthew Casey — (Photo by: Adrian Burrows/NBC)

When Brett returned to Chicago after breaking things off with the Chaplain, it was obvious that there were some lingering feelings between her and Casey but the timing wasn’t right. Then he hooked back up with his ex and Brett’s bestie Dawson (with Brett’s encouragement) in the fall finale so we’re not sure if that has complicated things further between these two blondes. We don’t want to see them rush into things so we’re content with this slow burn to continue.

3. After exhausting herself, is Kidd taking a step back from leadership training?

After exhausting herself to the point of getting into a minor car accident in the fall finale, Kidd realised that something had to give and stepped down from training at the academy. Chief Boden acknowledged that he may have pushed her too soon and apologized. Kidd was flattered that the Chief saw leadership qualities in her and didn’t seem to object when he said he should look at other ways to mentor and train her rather than throwing her in the deep end. Maybe training isn’t so off the table as we think?

4. Will we learn more about Ritter and Gallo?

Pictured: Alberto Rosende as Blake Gallo — (Photo by: Adrian Burrows/NBC)

Okay not really a cliffhanger, more of a self indulgent fangirl question. I’m really enjoying the bond that newbies Ritter and Gallo have and hope that they’ll become besties like Otis and Cruz. With Alberto Rosende, who plays Gallo, recently being made a series regular, I have high hopes for this to happen. I’m looking forward to seeing more scenes with these two and also learning about their respective backgrounds, including meeting Ritter’s boyfriend!

CHICAGO P.D.

1. Will Halstead survive?

Pictured: Jesse Lee Soffer as Det. Jay Halstead — (Photo by: Matt Dinerstein/NBC)

The big cliffhanger to come out of the ONE CHICAGO fall finales is will P.D.‘s Jay Halstead survive after being shot in the closing moments of the last 2019 episode? To recap, he was secretly helping the wife of the wrongly accused suspect that Intelligence put in prison, only for the guy to die in jail. The wife then ended up getting kidnapped because she was getting involved with her late husband’s drug deals. Halstead under an alias ended up getting caught up in it and while they were held hostage, he admitted to her who he really was. Once the bad guys were taken down, he returned to get her, only for her to shoot him! Halstead wasn’t wearing a vest, so we’re not liking how this could play out.

2. Assuming Halstead survives, will his near-death experience bring him and Upton closer?

Pictured: Jesse Lee Soffer as Det. Jay Halstead, Tracy Spiridakos as Det. Hailey Upton — (Photo by: Matt Dinerstein/NBC)

Halstead’s colleague, Upton, was the first of the team to find him so no doubt she heard the shots and will call for the help he needs. We’re staying positive that Halstead survives because it would be crazy to kill him off. We wonder if Halstead’s near death experience will bring the pair closer and potentially have them talk about their feelings. At the very least, we’re expecting Upton to keep a bedside vigil til Halstead wakes up!

3. Is Burgess going to keep the baby? What will happen with her career, plus her relationship with Ruzek if she does?

Pictured: (l-r) Patrick John Flueger as Officer Adam Ruzek, Marina Squerciati as Officer Kim Burgess — (Photo by: Matt Dinerstein/NBC)

Burgess’ decision about her pregnancy was still up in the air in the fall finale. All that was decided was that she wasn’t going to go through with the abortion at the time. That’s not to say that she’s going to go through with the pregnancy or keep the baby. If she does decide to keep the baby, what will that mean for her and Ruzek? He said he will support any decision she makes – will this mean they co-parent or will they eventually end up getting back together? Once Burgess makes a decision about the pregnancy, she’s going to have to tell her colleagues, or at the very least her boss. We’re pretty sure this means she’ll be confined to desk duty or something less intensive than chasing perps in Intelligence. Being the career oriented woman that she is, how will she cope with that? Will we then get to see more scenes with her and Platt at the District? We have so many questions!

CHICAGO MEDCHICAGO FIRE and CHICAGO P.D. all return Wednesday, January 8 on NBC.
