Women of the Week
Halloween wasn’t the only thing captivating us last week; there were also some small screen performances that held our attention. Read on to find out who surprised us on screen!
Nominated by Melissa: Ashley Jensen as Agatha Raisin on Agatha Raisin
My pick is Ashley Jensen as Agatha Raisin in Agatha Raisin on Acorn. I’ve been a fan of Ashley’s since Ugly Betty and I was delighted when I discovered the first two seasons of Agatha Raisin over the summer. Season 3 premiered this week and Ashley is once again the embodiment of this intelligent, bold, brave, empowered, funny, lovable, energetic, newly-minted private investigator. In the premiere episode she walks us through a “haunted house” murder mystery with Agatha’s trademark agility – both mental and physical – and a healthy dose of hilarity. I can’t wait for more Ashley as Agatha!
Nominated by Rueben: Janet Montgomery as Dr. Lauren Bloom on New Amsterdam
I don’t usually watch medical shows, but New Amsterdam really caught my attention last year when it debuted and I have stuck with it through this season. This week’s episode found Dr. Lauren Bloom (Janet Montgomery) working a different shift in the ER [as she is slowly healing from that horrible accident at the end of last season that left one of her legs badly damaged]. She was anticipating a quiet shift in the ER and got anything but. However, she handled the overflow of patients adeptly, and while she kept calling out for your cane [which she has really needed to help her get around the hospital], she was moving around quite swiftly without any pain. Adrenaline will do that for you, I guess. Never once did Dr. Bloom seem flustered or unsure or even in visible pain. It was really quite a sight to behold.
