MURPHY BROWN: The Girl Who Cried About Wolf {Roundtable}

By  |

This week Murphy sent Avery on a little wild goose chase, but also had to handle some news from Frank about his dating life. Murphy Brown seems to be filling itself back into an old groove, but find out what Cara and I thought of this week’s episode.

Old News

Roz: I don’t know why, but that bit with Barney made me laugh and laugh. It was such a bad big of 90s nostalgia that I didn’t know I needed in my life until this moment. Thankfully I was too old to have a Barney (or know many people with them) but man was he everywhere!

Cara: Barney was a pretty good call back, and I thought it was pretty funny too. I have been a little unsure about the show up to know, but it does feel like the show is getting back into its old groove. I enjoyed Avery digging up the back yard and Murphy’s trick on him. It was pretty mean, but definitely felt like a Murphy Brown move to make.

New News

Roz: Given what we know about Murphy and her EAs, I liked the idea of VAL as a tool to get Murphy the help she needs without a person wrapped up in that work, but clearly that idea went to all the wrong places. It was a funny gag, but it also makes me wonderful why VAL would send anything to Wolf in the first place. Murphy doesn’t seem like the type of person to misspeak, so how did VAL actually do that?

Cara: I thought VAL was a great riff on the old assistant gag, and I got a good chuckle out of Pat’s description of the Murphy Brown support group. I’d like to see a little more warmth between the original cast and the new folks, and I think this episode was definitely a step in the right direction.

Murphy Brown airs on Thursdays at 9:30PM on CBS.

Roz lives in the Los Angeles area, and has been a long time California girl. Despite her better judgment, she enjoys shows about the shallow sides of her home city, but will also find time to watch iZombie, Jane the Virgin, and much more.
