ONE CHICAGO Women: Season Finales Round Up

By  |

It was a fairly somber end in the ONE CHICAGO world when all three shows wrapped for the season in the last week – deaths, break ups, new outside positions of power. Read on to find out what went down in the season finales of CHICAGO MEDCHICAGO P.D. and CHICAGO FIRE, plus what questions we have for the franchise’s leading ladies when all three shows return (on one night!) in the fall…

Sharon Goodwin

The big day is here and this week’s episode opens up with Goodwin speaking to the press about the conjoined twins separation surgery that’s about to take place. We hope that she savored that moment of positivity because things are about to go downhill for Goodwin… her ex-husband is admitted to Med and it looks like he was trying to kill himself after his girlfriend died. Goodwin is not sympathetic, she’s mad the late girlfriend did after all ask Goodwin to look after him after she died, plus how would his death affect his and Goodwin’s children? That’s not the only shock that Goodwin faces, at the end of the episode she’s introduced to a new Chief of Trauma and the new Chief Operating Officer – a position that didn’t even exist before and has been filled by someone from a pharmaceutical background. We can’t see this ending well…

Questions for Season 4:

Given all the dramas that Goodwin has had with the board this season, what do these new positions of power mean for Goodwin? Is her job in danger?

Maggie Lockwood

As well as being concerned about her friend and boss when Goodwin’s ex is brought into the ED, it doesn’t look like Maggie is impressed with the new Trauma Chief. We only saw them together for less than a minute, but we totally got unimpressed vibes from Maggie about the situation!

Questions for Season 4:

We’ve seen Maggie have issues with authority in the past so is she going to clash with these new seniors and potentially the new way of running things? Also, what’s the deal with her and Barry? (Remember, they had dinner a few weeks ago…)

Dr Natalie Manning

Things are pretty good between Nat and Will Halstead at the moment. In fact, unbeknownst to her he’s planning to propose that night. Unfortunately when his fling from a few weeks ago starts chatting him up in front of Nat, she puts two and two together and storms out. He follows her and clumsily proposes to her outside the hospital. (NO, THAT IS NOT HOW YOU PROPOSE OR FIX A FIGHT, WILL HALSTEAD! Also no disrespect to Mama Halstead, but that ring is cursed.) From the look on Nat’s face, it seems like she’s thinking the same thing as us but we’ll have to wait until next season to know for sure. On the workplace front, the homeless teen that Nat and Dr Choi helped give birth a few weeks ago is admitted to Med with Hepatitis A and C and sadly later dies.

Questions for Season 4:

Will Nat accept Halstead’s proposal? And if she doesn’t (let’s face it, it’s a pretty big chance), can they still stay together after that?

April Sexton

What a difference a few weeks makes! Dr Choi is concerned about his sister after she fled to Vegas but it turns out his worries were valid when he, April and Dr Manning return to the homeless camp he’s been visiting and he finds Emily there and quite ill because she’s contacted Hepatitis A. He rushes her to Med and in a moment of consciousness, Emily remarks that April hates her and Choi tries to reassure her that she doesn’t. Later when Choi tells April that once Emily is out of hospital she’s going to stay with them, April disagrees and tells him that his sister is damaged and won’t change her ways. (Ouch!) Choi holds his ground and so does April, telling him that Emily won’t be going with them, she’s going home with him. Are we seeing another couple who go together this time last year, also split up?

Question for Season 4:

Are April and Dr Choi really over?

Pictured: Rachel DiPillo as Sarah Reese — (Photo by Nino Munoz/NBC)

Dr Sarah Reese

Dr Reese is trying to find a home for her dad once he’s been released from the hospital after his heart transplant, but he’s proving to be difficult about it. So much so that Dr Charles is surprised at the end of the episode when Reese’s dad tells him he’s staying with her. This is also a concern since Dr Charles has spent most of the episode investigating whether her dad is a murderer and the signs point to yes! As Dr Charles is confronting him about it, Reese’s dad drops to the ground – it looks like his new heart is giving out on him. Dr Charles hesitates to give him CPR, just as Reese walks in to see him hovering over the body. Uh-oh.

Questions for Season 4:

Will her father survive? (Things aren’t looking great from where we’re sitting.) Regardless of whether he does or not, will Reese blame Dr Charles and hold him responsible for whatever happens next?

Kim Burgess

In the opening five minutes of P.D‘s season finale, we are stunned to find out that Olinsky didn’t survive his brutal prison stabbing and that he has passed away. Oof, that hurt! Of course Intelligence is on the case to find out who is responsible for the death of their colleague and friend. They end up discovering that it was a revenge hit for a case that Olinsky was working on where the accused’s brother was arrested and later killed in jail. While trying to find the man’s whereabouts from his wife, Burgess doesn’t hesitate to play dirty, slapping the woman and faking texts from Immigration threatening to deport the woman’s mother in order for her to turn on her husband. (It works.) Burgess is also tasked with clearing out Olinsky’s desk.

Question for Season 6:

This season we’ve seen Burgess toughen up and show Voight-like behavior, will she continue to be more like him? The season finale also saw Voight in hot water with the Ivory Tower and at odds with Burgess’ partner, Antonio. If it comes down to picking sides, will Burgess have her partner’s back or will she side with her boss? Also, is there any hope for Burgess and Ruzek?

Hailey Upton

While seeking justice for Olinsky, we saw Upton and Burgess team up quite a bit in this episode. Just like Burgess, Upton wasn’t afraid to get tough with persons of interest, although she didn’t go as far as Burgess and get physical.

Questions for Season 6:

Is there romance on the cards for Upton? (Atwater’s a nice guy, just sayin’…) Will she and Halstead continue to trust each other and be strong partners?

Pictured: Amy Morton as Sgt. Trudy Platt — (Photo by: James Dimmock/NBC)

Trudy Platt

Platt’s with Intelligence at the hospital when they receive the news about Olinsky and we see her hugging Voight. Later, she interrupts a tense moment between Ruzek and Antonio in the bullpen with news that Antonio is to report to the Ivory Tower in relation to the incident of Voight shooting an unarmed suspect and the news breaking to the press.

Questions for Season 6:

Will we get to see more of Platt next season and not just passing by in a scene or two? Now that Voight has lost Olinsky, could Platt become his new confidant?

Pictured: Monica Raymund as Gabriela Dawson — (Photo by: Elizabeth Morris/NBC)

Gabriela Dawson

We got a double dose of episodes for the Fire finale in which we saw Dawson and Casey take some serious steps in their plan to try again. Even though they’ve been trying for like five minutes, they go to see a fertility specialist who tells them that as a result from her previous miscarriage, Dawson has an aneurysm making it dangerous for her to give birth or even carry to term. Casey suggests adoption, which Dawson is strongly against and tells him that it’s her body and her choice. Nonetheless, Casey goes to visit an adoption agency to get more information and when Dawson finds out, she is livid. She tells him that she won’t go through the heartache of adoption following what they experienced with Louie. Words are exchanged, including her telling him that he knows who she is and he knew that when he married her and she’s not going to change, before Dawson storms out. Conveniently, early on in the episode the paramedic chief approached Dawson about joining a relief mission in Puerto Rico but she politely declined telling him that it wasn’t a good time. The end of the finale sees Dawson seeking out the chief to learn more and with news that Monica Raymund will not be returning for Season 7, it’s safe to say she’s probably going to join the mission.

Question for Season 7:

Will Dawson tell Casey about Puerto Rico face to face or just leave him with a letter?

Sylvie Brett

A chance encounter during a call sees Brett meet a man from the Indianapolis Fire Department who is interested in the Slamigan (and her). Cruz, who is still carrying a torch for Brett and feels threatened that the guy is interested in Brett, tanks the deal but luckily Brett saves it and they get their first lot of sales for the Slamigan. It’s not all celebrations though, during another call Brett is confronted with a young mother stabbed by her out of his mind junkie neighbor. Unfortunately the woman doesn’t make it, leaving Brett rattled and distracted. She and Dawson even snap at each other following a call. Why did this call affect Brett so much?

Questions for Season 7:

With Dawson leaving, who will be Brett’s new partner on Ambulance 61? (Now that Valor has been axed by The CW, why not bring back Charlie Barnett’s Peter Mills?) Can Brettonio get back together already and this time for good?

Stella Kidd

Kidd is probably the only ONE CHICAGO woman to end the season on a good note. After all the pesky Renee drama, including Kidd telling her that she’s on to her and can see that she’s using her son to spend extra time with Severide, Severide still comes back to Kidd at the season’s end and assures her that he wants to make this thing between them work. Even after Renee kisses him. In fact, he’s smart enough to cut ties with Renee after that.

Questions for Season 7:

Does Kidd know that Renee kissed Severide? Are Kidd and Severide in it for the long haul?

CHICAGO MEDCHICAGO FIRE and  CHICAGO P.D.  will all return in the Fall on Wednesdays on NBC.

Ange is the Girl from Oz who travelled the States. Teen dramas, rom-comedies and superhero shows are her weakness. She also loves a good crime and medical drama and probably watches more TV than she can handle... You can contact her at ange@nicegirlstv.com.
