BLINDSPOT: Mum’s the Word {Roundtable}

By  |

With another big episode of Blindspot, the team is forced to face Roman (Luke Mitchell) in person on an island in Croatia, with Avery at a gala hosted by the Crawfords.

1. Reade and Zapata are forced undercover for part of the mission. How dangerous is it that they have to play up their feelings while still doing nothing about them for you? Do you need this side of things to end?

Rueben: The way I see it, that undercover mission as fake fiances was kinda lame. They didn’t even come off as a couple in love to that wedding planner. But I think that situation upset Zapata more than it did Reade. I would just like to see this part end, but I have a feeling that won’t be the case especially given the clips of Reade fighting off a would-be assassin.

Leah: Well how coincidental..undercover as a couple. I need them to wrap it up. This dance has been going on way too long.

Lisa: #OverIt One way or another this storyline needs to wrap up. It’s getting stale. The cat’s out the bag so they need to do something with it.

Cay: Yeah, the undercover bit was awkward, but not in a amusing way. They didn’t even try and there is no way that the wedding planner bought it and it wasn’t funny, so it should have been the first scene on the cutting room floor, but I guess it did accomplish the goal of allowing Patterson to hack the woman’s files. I’ve not traditionally been a Zapata fan, but I’m starting to like her more and feel bad for her.

Roz: It’s just a bad idea to have them fake being a real couple when Reade’s got other ideas. I need that tension to just go away before I feel like Reade and Zapata should be together in scenes.

2. Family is key to what Roman’s looking for now. With Jane denying her relationship to Roman, what do you think of his decision to keep Blake and Crawford on his side?

Rueben: I think Jane telling Roman that she chose her other life over him, helped push him right over the ledge. I had doubts about how much he really cared about Blake, but what he did to save Crawford and Blake makes me almost 95% sure that he has really fallen for Blake and values the fact that Crawford actually trusts him. I don’t like his decision, obviously, and given what was shown at the end of the episode, he wants revenge for what Jane said to him. At least that’s what I think.

Leah: Here is my problem…no matter what Roman gets, even if it is what he thinks he wants, it will never be right for him. He is too much if a mess. He desperately wants family but he can’t sustain a “normal” life. Right now he will take family (Blake and Crawford) how ever he can get it.

Lisa: I agree. He’s never going to be satisfied with whatever form of family he has. He is totally messed up and that is dangerous.

Cay: Yeah, Roman’s damaged goods through no fault of his own, although unlike Jane, his morality is a bit more flexible. He does really seem to love Blake and also seems to really like Crawford as a father figure (albiet one who joked about killing him just two episodes ago!). It’s hard to imagine that he’d do a 180 on his grand plan after putting this much into it, though. And after all of this, could Jane’s words at the party really be what pushed him over the edge? His character is definitely the most fascinating of the entire series (Sorry, Rich….)

Roz: That blow had to hurt so much to Roman, but it’s not going to do him better when Crawford is nice out of respect for Blake and how valuable Roman’s been to the whole process. This new family is going to disappoint him just like Jane is.

3. Do you think Blake will do anything with the knowledge that her dad is not a nice guy?

Rueben: Well, she knew he was an intense guy, but I don’t think she really knew just what a not so nice guy he is. Until now. I have a feeling she’s going to start questioning everything about him, but I just don’t know how far she will push her uncertainty.

Leah: She has called him scary many a time. I’m sure she will be upset for a bit but I also think she will get back on Team Crawford.

Lisa: I think she will stay on team Crawford very cautiously but her trust has definitely been shaken.

Cay: If she didn’t realize this about her father long before now then she’s super naive or really good at denial. That said, if she develops a spine now, I wonder how it will affect her relationship with Roman? He’s every bit as bad as her father in many ways. I’m not sure who will be more loyal to her – Roman, or her father. Crawford has already shown willingness to traumatize her as a pawn in his grand plan for world domination.

Roz: I hope she does something soon because her dad’s plan is so scary that the show might end if he succeeds.

4. Holy button guys! Now we have hits on all of the team. What is Roman trying to prove by killing the team?

Rueben: That whole part freaked me out. I don’t know if that was his end game all along or if he is implementing this simply based on what Jane said to him. Roman is just way too complicated to figure out his true intentions.

Leah: Who knows what he is thinking.

Lisa: That ending gave me chills to the bone. This isn’t going to end well. I think he’s just trying to wipe out everyone who knows his true identity so his new family won’t find out who he really is. Avery better watch out too.

Cay: I’m having a hard time thinking that Crawford basically pledging his love while Jane told him off would be enough to get Roman to completely flip and do something that may be unrevokable after toying with the team for so long.

Roz: This won’t end well for anyone.

5. MVP?

Rueben: I don’t think I have an MVP this time around. Although I have to say that despite all of our reservations about Avery, she did actually help somewhat with this case. Although her getting out of the van when she was told to stay put and later putting her tracker on Roman was just simply dumb.

Leah: It’s a whole team for me. No one in particular stood out.

Lisa: There were no real standouts for me this week either, but if I had to pick someone it would be Roman *shudder*

Cay: I love the character of Roman! Luke Mitchell does such a fantastic job – he’s so charming, you really want to like him, but he’s also SO EVIL…but then sometimes compared to those he associates with, he doesn’t seem like it at all. So complicated!

Roz: I don’t want to give this week’s MVP to Roman, but he did get things moving.
