My Top 10 Choices for April TV

By  |

We may only be about halfway through March TV, but there is plenty of programming options for April for which to look forward to seeing on the small screen.

While the full April TV calendar will be posted here at NiceGirlsTV closer to the end of the month, I wanted to focus on my top 10 choices for the new shows, finales and made-for-TV movies that I anxious to see.

NEW SHOWS

On April 2, the ABC thriller The Crossing will debut at 10 PM. Steve Zahn (That Thing You Do!) stars as Jude Ellis, the sheriff of Port Canaan, a small fishing town, whose plans for a quiet life change instantly when refugees from a war-torn country wash up on his beach seeking asylum. The only problem is the country these people are from is America – and the war they are fleeing hasn’t happened yet. The ensemble cast includes Natalie Martinez (Under the Dome), Sandrine Holt (MacGyver), Jay Karnes (The Shield), Rick Gomez (Justified) and Simone Kessell (Terra Nova) [among others].

The new streaming series Lost in Space will debut on Netflix on April 13. Taking cues from the original, the new version will center on the Robinson family, who is forced to come together in a time of crisis. Stranded light years from their intended destination, they find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons. The cast includes Toby Stephens (Black Sails), Molly Parker (Deadwood), Parker Posey (Superman Returns), Raza Jaffrey (Code Black), Ignacio Serricchio (Bones), Max Jenkins (Sense8) and Taylor Russell (Falling Skies) [among others].

SEASON FINALES

The following season finales will air during April:

The Magicians on April 4 on Syfy at 9 PM
Strike Back on Cinemax on April 6 at 10 PM
Jane the Virgin on The CW at 8 PM on April 20 *

* NOTE: This finale has been moved to a different time and an earlier time.

RETURNS

The two dramas that will be back with new episodes are as follows:

The 100 will air its season premiere on The CW on April 24 at 9 PM and on April 29, Good Witch will air its season premiere on the Hallmark Channel at 9 PM.

MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES

On April 7, the new Hallmark Channel movie Once Upon a Prince will air at 9 PM, starring Megan Park (The Secret Life of the American Teenager) and Johnathan Keltz (Reign).

On April 8, the 4-part mini-series Howards End, based on the E.M. Forster’s classic novel, will debut on Starz, airing a new episode each Sunday at 8 PM. The cast includes Hayley Atwell (Marvel’s Agent Carter), Tracey Ullman, Julia Ormond (Witches of East End) and Matthew Macfadyen (Ripper Street).

On April 28, the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie The Beach House will debut on the Hallmark Channel at 9 PM, starring Andie MacDowell (Cedar Cove), Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) and Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights).
