Weekly Update

WOMEN OF THE WEEK

By  |

We got the NcieGirls together to talk about our favorite women in TV from last week. See who we picked and why below.

Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully in The X-Files
Nominated by Melissa: (Seconded by Cay & Liz) Scully dealt with a lot in this week’s episode of The X-Files revival: a seriously gross monster serial killer, her mother’s heart attack and subsequent death, and increasing guilt over giving up her son for adoption. What impressed me was how I could see the emotional weight of her mother’s situation stayed with Scully. It was etched on her face and in the set of her shoulders, always in the back of her mind, even when confronting the street artist who accidentally created a monster or trading banter with Mulder.

Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers in Supergirl
Nominated by Karen: This week Chyler showed an amazing range of emotions when her adopted sister, Kara, was held captive in a fantasy world. She had to plead with her to return to Earth, and gave a heartwrenching performance while being intercepted at every turn by Kara’s sometimes-evil Aunt Astra. After Kara’s safe return to the “real world”, Astra showed her true colors again, and Alex was forced to end her life. Her decision to allow Hank to take the blame for her actions in order to continue to be a hero in her sister’s eyes will continue to plague her as the show moves forward, as was portrayed with just one look by Chyler at the end of the episode.

Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers/Supergirl in Supergirl
Nominated by Ange: This week we saw Melissa play a range of different faces to Kara/Supergirl – confusion upon waking up on Krypton, becoming the demure Kara Zor-El as her memories of Earth faded away, fury and determination to take down Nan once she regained consciousness back on Earth, despair when her Aunt Astra died, and my personal favourite – the awkwardness of Hank Henshaw pretending to be Kara Danvers. We’re halfway through the season now and week after week Melissa continues to do a wonderful job at making Kara and Supergirl her own.Ellen Pompeo

Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey in Grey’s Anatomy
Nominated by Leah: I admit I am a part time Grey’s watcher at best. I caught this weeks episode though and I was floored by how great Ellen Pompeo was. Meredith is attacked and left temporarily deaf and mute. She is left to scribble on a notepad and her wordless expressions say it all.

Leah reads constantly, sing incessantly and watches TV what her Mother would consider an unhealthy amount. You can find her on twitter @IamPollyP or contact her via email at leah@nicegirlstv.com
