LUCIFER 1.02 – Roundtable: The NiceGirls Take on Talk Therapy, Chocolate Angels & Trixie

By  |

The NiceGirls all agree. Lucifer is a gem. No! Dare I say diamond? Lucifer has the perfect blend of casting, clever writing, chemistry and carnality. Below are a few of our favorite things from last night’s episode. Enjoy!

LUCI_therapistHow do you feel about Dr. Linda’s deal with the devil? So far, so good?

Lisa: I would say that Dr. Linda is getting the best deal of all! All in a day’s work!

Leah: I think it’s great. She is a very good therapist so her insights seem to be helping Lucifer. Besides…she spends a lot of their time in bed. What’s not to like?

Stacey:
I second Lisa. Also: JEALOUS. JEALOUS. JEALOUS.

Mynda: I want to be Dr. Linda when I grow up! She is my new hero! Linda, with the help of Mr. Walking Heroin, is not afraid to ask for what she wants but also has great insight into Luci.

Melissa: Uh, yeah, she’s definitely winning at this point. I do like that this gives us a way to explore Lucifer’s emotions and psychology within the context of his established character. Dr. Linda has some interesting insights.

Screen Shot 2016-02-01 at 9.49.17 PMWe saw more of Maze who has a fondness for sharp pointy objects and knows exactly how to push Luci’s buttons. Who’s side is she on?

Lisa: Maze is a hot mess! She is definitely on the evil side, but I can’t quite figure out her angle. I need to give it a few more episodes.

Leah: I think she is Team Lucifer as long as that means he is wreaking havoc. She doesn’t seem to be fond of the evolving Lucifer.

Stacey:
I think Maze is on the side of the Devil. And Lucifer definitely isn’t the man she followed him out of the gates of hell anymore. She’s the proverbial Devil on Lucifer’s shoulder.

Mynda: She and Luci share a past which created a bond strong enough for her to leave hell with him but, does not like the person Luci is becoming. It makes me wonder if she will try to “eliminate” the distraction of Chloe in an effort to save him from himself!

Melissa: I think Maze might just be on Maze’s side.

Screen Shot 2016-02-01 at 9.25.46 PMThe writers are sprinkling each episode, with clever references to The Prince of Darkness in the music, dialogue and symbols. What is your opinion on their efforts?

Lisa: Yes! I absolutely love how clever the writers for this show are. I loved the apple reference! Keep the Easter eggs coming I say!

Leah:
They are great. Just another level to an already great show.

Stacey: Loving it.

Mynda: King of Pain on the piano, the apple, all of it is brilliant and adds a whole new layer of interest to the show. Well done @LUCIFERWriters!

Melissa: They fit neatly with Lucifer’s complete lack of secrecy about who he is and add to the general drollness of his character, so I dig ’em. The bit with the apple made me chuckle.

Screen Shot 2016-02-01 at 9.54.56 PMAmenadiel aka “The Chocolate Angel” as Lesley -Anne Brandt calls him, not only revealed Morningstar’s pet name but warned Luci that he should have taken the offer to return to hell. Thoughts?

Lisa: Ah! I love that she calls him The Chocolate Angel. That is hilarious! Anyway, I love the twist that he doesn’t want to return to hell, it’s great conflict. I have no idea at this point what’s coming, but I look forward to the craziness that I’m sure will ensue.

Leah: I’ll be interested to see just how far he’s willing to go on his own authority. He keeps threatening, but he seems wary to actually act.

Stacey: Hmmm… I feel like I only take so much more of the Chocolate Angel coming down and being like “You must return to hell.” I agree with Leah, I’m ready to see a little more action from him in regards to this.

Mynda: DB Woodside tweeted Amenadiel has a slow burn and his actions were going to be epic in future episodes. I’m thinking once his limit is reached, Look out!Screen Shot 2016-02-02 at 11.08.57 AM
Melissa: I’m ready for the vague threats to turn into real action and/or information about how things work in Heaven and Hell. I did like that Lucifer had to pray to bring Amenadiel down for help.

Screen Shot 2016-02-01 at 9.42.17 PMThis week’s episode was stuffed full of fantastic, clever lines and exchanges? Do you have a favorite?

Lisa: I loved when the protester asked Lucifer if he’d ever seen the face of the devil, and he replied “only every morning”. Loves it!

Leah: “No…puff puff pass. Not puff puff stomp angry.”

Stacey: I think the writing on this weeks episode was spot on. Too many to chose from.

Mynda: I love it when Luci lays down some serious truth among his frivolity! “What I hate more than anything is a liar. A charlatan. Someone who doesn’t believe in what they say.” The Eiffel Tower line killed me!

Melissa: More cleverness this week! I think my favorite is Trixie telling Chloe, “I have the Internet.” Priceless.

Screen Shot 2016-02-02 at 11.32.44 AMWhat was your favorite scene?

Lisa: Ooh! There Are too many to choose from. I really enjoyed the entire episode!

Leah: Trixie hugging Lucifer and then him trying to play fetch with her.

Stacey: I have to go with the Trixie fetch scene as well. I’m loving the way that he interacts with her so much. Also, the scene where Trixie tells her Mom she’s seen the movie. “I have the internet.” That kid is killing it. #thatcarthough #futuremrstomellisout

Mynda: Lucifer’s “fetch” scene with Trixie. That kid shines!

Melissa: Any scene between Lucifer and Trixie is at the top of my list. I also liked the interaction with the “preacher” (street performer) because it gave us a glimpse at the real Lucifer. Another favorite is the scene between Chloe and Lucifer when she’s trying rationalize the gunshot not resulting in a bullet and Lucifer moving in (to her mind) the blink of an eye. Maybe it won’t take all season for her to become a believer.
