HART OF DIXIE: Second Chance {Recap}

By  |

Well, it’s the season finale, which feels like it might have been written as a series finale – wrapping up many stories and leaving others just open enough that I wouldn’t have been bothered if that was the end. But, that is not the case and so next season will see what comes of some of them in the fall.

Weird Medical Case of the Week: Everyone’s got the hiccups as they face difficult emotional problems. Zoe’s went away after she admits what she feels for Wade. Cricket’s got them as her recommitment looms and Annabeth can’t seem to shake them either. Zoe’s suggestion that they need to express something they’re holding back.

Town Gossip: Bluebell seems to have fallen into the depths of the apocalypse, at least according to Dash. Nothing is going well: Wade’s leaving, Fancy’s is ruined, Meatball is marrying Lianne, and Annabeth might be marrying Davis.

How else can things go wrong this episode?

Relationship Drama: To avoid all their own issues (related to their former relationships now being in tatters), George and Levan are off to see their golfing hero at a book tour event in Florida. Avoiding the truth was never a good idea gentlemen! But maybe it’s not the guys who need the most help. Despite only having George and Levan at the reading, they both convince Don, the golfer, to come to Bluebell so that Don can see how valuable he is. Bluebell’s guys all rally around him and in the mist of that, Don decides he needs a new challenge: to get his ex-wife back. Much traveling later, there’s no reconciliation for Don and his ex-wife, but that means that he can go on to do other things – more dangerous holes and missions. Levan, hearing about how Don missed his chance runs back to Bluebell before Don also tells George that Don and his ex used to drive each other crazy and he wants to run towards Lemon, who’s running off on that boat cruise her grandmother was pushing last episode. George misses the boat But that also means that he sees Levan waiting for Lemon at the same boat. That’s the last three those two need: to fight over the same woman?

Annabeth had told Davis she needed time to decide on his proposal, and now he’s showing her his secret closet filled with the more than enough pairs of the same athletic shoes. Her hiccups finally force her to tell the truth: that she doesn’t want Davis to settle for someone who’s not right and that he’s a rebound guy for her after Levan.

Zoe’s developed a case of the hiccups that Lemon suggests is because of Wade and Zoe’s feelings. Zoe finally admits that she loves Wade just as Joel walked into the office. How unfortunate! Well, it could have been, if they weren’t so nonchalant about their break-up and their new friendship. He gives good advice and we’ll get to what happens from that later.

Cricket and Stanley’s renewal preparations aren’t going well, and after ten years, maybe they shouldn’t be doing this again. Just as the whole wedding’s about to start, she stops everything else from happening, and then Cricket announces that she’s a lesbian and her hiccups disappear. Never was I expecting that to happen, but it makes a certain amount of sense.

Lianne and Meatball’s wedding is going poorly, as Lianne admits to just how many men she’s slept with and then it turns out she doesn’t know Meatball at all. But in that moment after that failed wedding, Zoe finally admits that she loves Wade to the gather guests. But what’s a guy to do? Leave the event altogether, of course! The next morning, Wade has nothing to say about Zoe’s declaration and really wants nothing to do with it, and later Wade admits that they didn’t work because he didn’t try, but he won’t change his mind and wants to leave town. Wade doesn’t end up taking the job in Atlanta and Zoe vows to prove that they belong together as only one of the planned weddings actually happened.

Congrats to Brando and his wife!
