SLEEPY HOLLOW: Hopes for Season Two

By  |

The first season of Sleepy Hollow went out with a bang, so now it’s time to think about next season.  Here are some thoughts, musings, and hopes for Season 2.

Warning: SPOILERS for the finale.

Abbie in purgatory:  The creators recently confirmed that Abbie is indeed stuck in Purgatory and that she’ll need to get out or have someone help her get out.  It would be interesting to see her stay in purgatory for a few episodes in the new season so that she’ll have to interact with the lost souls around her and possibly rally them together in order to get out.  The creators pointed out that Abbie is a self-reliant person, but she also has the toughness and wherewithal to be a leader, so I could see her finding her own help and busting out of Purgatory in her own way.

The Horseman: Our dear friend Headless Hal ran off with Ichabod’s beloved Katrina just as soon as our hero had gotten her back.  How is Ichabod going to confront him this time?  We’ve seen that the Horseman can’t be killed, and how many times can he be dropped into the bottom of a river?  Headless Hal’s fate is most likely tied to Moloch, so he could stick around for the show’s entire run, but he might become a tired character by then.  Here’s hoping that the showrunners can deal with him in a deft and interesting manner.

The Other Horseman:  Why does no one remember our friend Conquest/Pestilence/Horned-Helmet Hank?  And will War look like John Noble or will he look like Fiery Frank from the visions?  And what about Famine?  Will he ever get his own episode or story arc?

Irving’s trial:  How is Irving going to fare with his murder charges in court?  Orlando Jones is too well-liked to leave the cast, so Captain Irving has to get out of this somehow.  Perhaps some magic can intervene?

Ichabod’s culture clash: We know that Ichabod is getting out of that box, so it will be fun to see him discover even more facets of modern culture.  If he can get Katrina back and keep her in the modern world, that would be a blast.  Maybe they can attend a Shakespeare festival, which would have its roots in the 18th century, but now they perform the actual plays instead of wacky 18th century reboots, like King Lear with a happy ending (Google that—it boggles the mind).  Or maybe they can marathon a bunch of superhero movies (“This Captain America is very much in the spirit of what the Founding Fathers had in mind, though I cannot say the same of his colleagues.”  “Yes, that’s wonderful, Ichabod, but I much prefer the trickster in green with his illusions and his fierce intelligence and those cheekbones!”  “Ah, yes, the brooding God of Mischief.  He reminds me of an acquaintance, but I cannot put my finger on who.”)

Evil!Shadowfax:  Headless Hal’s horse definitely has enough screen presence to garner his own storyline.  Maybe he’ll get lost and end up befriending a group of local children, causing everyone around them to die.  And then Ichabod and Abbie have to stop the horse, but the children want to keep him around and it’s all very Tim Burton-ish (good 1990s Tim Burton, that is).
