GLEE: Yes/No

By  |

In this episode of Glee, titled Yes/No, Will tries to plan a special surprise for Emma and he enlists the glee club to help him sweep her off her feet. Meanwhile, Becky sets her sights on Artie, and Finn makes an announcement about his life plans after high school that surprises the glee club. The following are my thoughts as I watch the show:

Welcome back to McKinley High! It’s been such a dry winter break that we have to start out by replaying Mercedes’ and Sam’s summer romance (to “[easyazon-link asin=”B001YMEE64″]Summer Nights[/easyazon-link]” no less, which is almost too much for me to take as an opening number.)

By going from that to a Becky voiceover where she sounds like Helen Mirren, I think this episode is going to give me whiplash.

Adding into the mix that Becky now wants to date Artie and that Beiste got married to Couter over break, I think that whiplash is well placed.

(No way is Sue every going to land David Boreanaz.)

  • Words about Emma’s number are escaping me. Same goes for Artie and Sugar.
  • I’m with Finn, Sam, being on synchronized swimming and Glee is a recipe for social suicide. But I do appreciate that Sam is trying to win Mercedes back.
  • Maybe I’ve just had a long day, but “Moves Like Jaggar” is confusing me, though anytime Artie gets to sing, I’m a happy girl. Let me not even get into the fact that the song was part of the plan for Shue to propose to Emma. Going from that to Finn talking about how much to spend on the engagement ring, and the whiplash is back. Thanks show.
  • Once again, no words on Finn potentially joining the Army.
  • Mercedes has a moment during the Roberta Flack number, all about Sam. Why can’t relationships be simple on this show?
  • A Beckyvention. Glee Club, what are you doing?
  • Shue, in another sign of you being one of the worst models of teaching ever, I’m not for this intervention on Finn’s behalf. Burt, your reasoning about keeping Finn in town (hurray for Washington!) is almost enough to make me love you. However, this is not the moment to tell Finn that his dad wasn’t a war hero, but a drug addict.
  • Becky, what are your seduction techniques?
  • Shue and Emma, this conversation about getting married went from sweet to horribly awkward in the flick of my wrist. That’s just wrong.
  • NYANA angst still. Kurt and Rachel, please find something else to complain about.
  • Santana, thank you for saying something about a song always being about Rachel. I needed that dose of snark right now.
  • Sam’s idea already has me scared, and we’re only to the roses on the walk down the hallway. Synchronized swimming with pin-up accents. Artie diving into the pool. This is just bizarre. At least Artie is back in some floating raft or I was going to be very worried. I’ll be over here sort of failing to understand that number as the way to propose, but I think I’m always going to wonder about moments like this.
  • Artie’s honesty plan is not quite working. But I don’t think Becky’s voiceover is right either.
  • The idea of Sue and Becky watching Beaches with ice cream is going to crack me up, though. That’s a good way to nearly end the episode.
  • Finn, what in the world do you have planned? Please tell me it’s not a marriage proposal of your own. Oh, it was. Oh that’s awkward to end on.

I’m going to have to ponder that proposal for two weeks before we have the King of Pop. Thanks State of the Union for that gap. Next week’s episode is titled “Michael” and it’s a tribute to Michael Jackson. Glee airs on Tuesdays at 8/7c, on Fox.
