Gleeking Out: Glee at PaleyFest 2011

By  |

The powerhouse Fox comedy Glee was welcomed back to PaleyFest to the sound of hundreds of screaming fans. The crowd was treated to an encore performance of “Original Songs” as we watched in the same theatre where the cast filmed the episode.

What followed after the episode was a night filled with spoilers all around, including details about the rest of the season and what might come in season three.

The creative team discussed how well they thought that the original songs from “Original Song” did, and as part of the race towards Nationals, New Directions will have a few more original songs. The Glee kids won’t be the only ones to have new material to work with—guest star Kristen Chenowith will be back soon with an original song about what happened to her in New York. Her life there didn’t go as well as she had hoped, especially as her all-white production of “The Wiz” flopped.

Other guest stars to return to the show include Gwyneth Paltrow as Holly Holiday, though her return episode wasn’t disclosed. The new Vocal Adrenaline coach will also make another appearance before Nationals, only this time as part of Sue’s League of Doom (seen in the promo to also include Sandy Ryerson and Terri).

Speaking of Vocal Adrenaline, Chauricewill be back at some point with the group, presumably as Nationals near, but not until then. However, there will be work done back at McKinley High with Karofsky and his issues—including an episode spotlighting Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”.

Along with Nationals, the Glee kids will have to face a few other challenges. It seems that Kurt and Blaine are on their way to prom, though not without complications. It also seems that Quinn and Finn are going to be complicated, bringing back the triangle with Rachel as well. In a moment of weakness, Chris Colfer said something about Kurt returning to New Directions, shocking the audience. After a beat, he responded, “Like you didn’t know it was coming.”

As for some of the other couples on the show, Naya Rivera shared some interesting ideas on her ideal ending for Santana and Brittany. That idea, however, won’t play out because the creative team have ideas on how to develop Santana’s burgeoning feelings over the next episodes. Kevin McHale did note that any hate tweets he would ignore, as the supporters of Santana and Brittany tend to send him hateful message because Brittany chose Artie.

By the end of the night, the cast and crew had shared a great stories about the show, while also cementing the popular love for the show and characters.
