Warehouse 13 Turns Up the Heat with Tia Carrere & Paula Garces

By  |

This summer introduced both Kelly (as played by Paula Garces) and Agent Kate Logan (as played by Tia Carrere) as love interests for Pete Latimer (Eddie McClintock) on Warehouse 13. During a recent conference call, both Tia Carrere and Paula Garces were coy about where their storylines are going. Not wanting to spoil too much about what is upcoming, Tia and Paula were playful during the interview, dancing around questions of whether or not Pete would be involved with both of these beautiful women.

However, after last week’s steamy scenes of Pete and Kelly between the sheets, it is pretty clear that Kelly has landed her Secret Service lover boy. Though, in a prior episode, Tia also had an intimate moment with Eddie when Eddie had a hallucination of kissing Kate. When prodded about her special moment, Tia confessed Eddie is “a lovely kisser” so long as he is not eating while filming kissing scenes, which he apparently has a tendency to do — much to the chagrin of both guest stars.

Despite the hazards of kissing Eddie, Paula added, “There’s something sweet and funny about [Eddie] — and kind of geeky and nervous. So I think also the fact that he’s not so . . . tough and mean — I think [that] is . . . something that’s adorable to women.” Tia added that Eddie is like a lovable, playful puppy dog, which combined with the fact that he does not feel he has to prove himself, is very appealing.

In addition, Tia simply loved the chemistry of the people she worked with on Warehouse 13 as they are one of the few groups of people she has been lucky enough to work with where they made it fun to be working at 2:00 a.m. She said, “They have such a great group of people together, I loved working with them.”

Paula agreed, saying that for her, “I really felt the passion about the show and about the stories from everyone. Everyone from the crew, the writers, the creators, the actors on the show, they’re all very passionate about what they’re doing and the stories that they’re trying to create and how they’re trying to entertain their public.” She added, “They really love working there and being together that it’s infectious. The vibe on set is infectious and I really enjoyed it and wanted – I left wanting more. I left wanting to work on it more so it was really great.”

Both also greatly admire Eddie and Joanne Kelly, who Paula described as having amazing chemistry and had a great time working with Saul Rubinek and Allison Scagliotti who they found to be smart and delightful to work with.

Recalling when she was first offered the chance to work on Warehouse 13, Paula said that she jumped at the chance. She was already a fan of the show and thus the invitation to guest star was a fun surprise. She was also drawn to the role of Kelly, who she sees as sweet yet sassy. To her, Kelly is a free spirit, who is smart, loves animals, and is open to being in love. For her, that is really what held significant appeal.

Tia Carrere added that for her, she was attracted to the witty Hepburn-and-Tracy dialogue. She was also struck by how fresh the show felt combining humor, fantastic dialogue, great characters, and fantastical magical objects. Additionally, she was drawn to playing a ballsy broad, another wonderful throw back to the Hepburn-Tracy era. She relished the opportunity to play such a strong-willed woman.

When asked how their characters would react to find out what was really going on with the Warehouse and the artifacts, Paula was hesitant to reveal too much. But she did reveal that an upcoming episode would touch upon that subject. As for Tia, she thought that her character is pretty savvy and is probably figuring things out. For Kate, while it kind of freaks her out, it also intrigues her. Tia said, “She’s standing her ground and waiting for the whole story to unfold before her. I don’t think she’s shying away from it at all.”

Warehouse 13 films in Toronto, and Paula and Tia explained it feels a bit like camp. Though they were quick to mention that they were really grateful to the Warehouse 13 people who make it work and make it a nice loving vibe for people to go and guest star in and work for them.

As far as their favorite artifact to play with on the show, Paula’s favorite was the compact which will be featured in an upcoming episode. “They snuck that up on me and I really liked it.” As for an artifact that has not yet been portrayed on the show that she would like to work with, Paula thought a Mayan calendar or Fountain of Youth would be fun. Tia really wanted to wear the clothes of the Helen of Troy or to work through Casanova’s Book of Love.

Finally, as to whether their characters will get a chance to meet or cross-paths, Paula said, “I wouldn’t mind them meeting. That would be cool, Tia’s and my character meeting. It would be kind of a sweet awkward cool moment.”

To find out what lies ahead for Tia and Paula’s characters, Kate and Kelly on Warehouse 13, be sure to tune in for an all new episode on August 31st at 9/8c on Syfy.
