Women of the Week

By  |

Sure our viewing schedules aren’t as hectic right now, but that doesn’t mean we’re short on praiseworthy performances this week. Who are the Nice Girls applauding in their latest round of Women of the Week? Read on to find out!

Nominated by Cara: Jenn Lyon as Jennifer Husser on Claws

My Woman of the Week is Jenn Lyon, who plays Jenn on Claws. She does such a good job keeping the character Jenn real and sincere, and she forces us to take seriously a character that is the kind of woman who would often be mocked. That sob at the end of this week’s episode was so real and heart wrenching. She is one of the strengths of the show every week, but this week was a power house performance of a woman on the edge of a breakdown.

Nominated by Ange: Melora Hardin as Jacqueline Carlyle on The Bold Type

Yes, I’m going with another pick from The Bold Type this week but it’s well warranted. Jacqueline Carlyle, played by Melora Hardin, was particularly full of wisdom and class this week – from advising Sutton on taking a risk and hiring her best friend’s girlfriend, to standing up to the newest board member without making a dramatic scene. But it was the way she handled the situation with former employee Jane that granted her my vote. Despite no longer being her boss, Jacqueline still acted like the mentor that she has been to Jane this past year and recognized the difference between what Jane wants and what Jane needs. So when Jane came to her after being fired from her new job, Jacqueline gently told her that she wasn’t simply going to rehire Jane because the young writer needed time to learn and live in her mistake. It would have been easy to paint Jacqueline as a villain in this situation but the combination of gentle yet firmness that Hardin brings to the character had me siding with her on this one and applauding her for being such a positive role model for women.

Ange is the Girl from Oz who travelled the States. Teen dramas, rom-comedies and superhero shows are her weakness. She also loves a good crime and medical drama and probably watches more TV than she can handle... You can contact her at ange@nicegirlstv.com.
