Salute to Rising Stars
Since last year, I have been highlighting rising stars, actresses who are on the move, actresses who deserve a little extra attention for their latest work. Landing that crucial role in a TV movie or guest appearance in a successful show or film makes all the difference for aspiring actors.
Let’s take a look at the next two actresses who viewers should keep their eye on:
Sibongile Mlambo
Sibongile is a Zimbabwe native who has been acting for the past 6 years, building herself quite an interesting resume. She got her first big break in the box office film Honey 3: Dare to Dance and she appeared in Message from the King (which starred Black Panther lead Chadwick Boseman). She has had recurring roles in Black Sails and the MTV thriller Teen Wolf.
She has two big projects coming up very soon: she is part of the cast of the Freeform fantasy drama Siren that will air its two-hour series premiere on March 29; and she will appear in the Netflix remake of the classic sci-fi series Lost in Space, which is set to debut online on April 13. She will also be part of the cast of the upcoming box office film Under the Silver Lake that is set to include Andrew Garfield, Topher Grace and Riley Keough.
Malina Weissman
Malina is a New York City-based model and teen actress, who made her debut as the young version of April O’Neil (played by Megan Fox) in the box office film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
She next played the young version of Kara Zor-El (played by Melissa Benoist) in the CBS now The CW series Supergirl and she starred alongside Jennifer Garner and Robbie Amell in the comedy box office film Nine Lives.
She will be back on the small screen, starring alongside Neil Patrick Harris, on March 30 when the second season of A Series of Unfortunate Events airs on Netflix.
Here is to Sibongile and Malina as rising stars!
