Batwoman episode 109: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Two

We are excited that Batwoman has joined this annual crossover event! This roundtable will discuss parts 1-3 of Crisis on Infinite Earths (not just Batwoman, although she is our main focus).***warning spoilers ahead***

Join NiceGirls Lisa and Cay as they share their thoughts using our feature SASSY: S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(our Thoughts):

STUPID

Cay: I’m going to preface this by saying that I don’t read DC comics, so I’m making these comments without knowing the source material but having watched MANY years of the Arrowverse shows. Now that I got that out of the way, I was NOT a fan of the Bruce Wayne story line. First, I didn’t love the casting –  yes, Kevin Conroy has VOICED the dark knight before, but physically, he does not in any way look or act like what I’ve come to expect from the many iterations of Batman/Bruce Wayne that I’ve seen. Then it got worse as we find out that he KILLED SUPERMAN and then gives Kate kryptonite (just in case, y’know?).  (Yes, you guessed it, I was also not a fan of the Batman vs Superman movie!) Ugh, I had a hard time paying attention for this part because I was so not on board with the whole plotline.

Not Batwoman related specifically, but *seriously*, haven’t all the characters on Arrow learned their lesson about the Lazarus pit yet??? And of all people you don’t want having a blood lust, it’s Oliver Queen! I was screaming at my TV when they came up with that idea.

Lisa: I have dabbled in a few DC comics, but I’m not well versed on the source material either. Batwoman was so badass I can’t think of a stupid moment for her, but I am with you 100% on the Lazarus pit storyline…SMH. That was stupid as hell.

P.S. I’m going to lose a few nerd points but I never saw Batman vs. Superman *covers face and hides*

Cay: I would wear that as a badge of honor as it suggests good judgement!

Lisa: Hee Hee Hee….I will wear it with pride!

AWESOME

Cay: Cool that Kate is a Paragon, and of courage, no less. It suits her. Also cool to see her actually be part of a team and hold her own with a bunch of aliens and metahumans. I was enjoying her with Kara/Supergirl until the whole standing-up-to-her-with-kryptonite part (see “SoSo”).

Lisa: I loved seeing Kate being part of the team. She fit right in and kicked ass doing it. I also enjoyed the Kate/Supergirl scenes at the beginning. It was like an explosion of girl power! Yessss! But then there was the whole Kryptonite thing. Yeah that killed it. Back to the awesome I thought it was so funny when Kate didn’t let Ray touch her suit. She said, “Don’t touch the suit!” She makes everything sound cool. And my favorite, Lucifer on the crossover event! I love Tom Ellis. Holla!

SO SO

Cay:  While I appreciate that it was a really big moment for her character, I didn’t like the way that Kate stood up to Kara/Supergirl (with kryptonite at the ready, just in case). The kryptonite makes it the worst – it harks back to Bruce Wayne killing Superman and everything that I hate about that plot line.

Lisa: I agree. I really wanted to see them be more of a team. Kate and Supergirl had great chemistry.

YOUR THOUGHTS IN GENERAL ON ‘CRISIS’

Cay: Apparently I missed the bit that Crisis was also a crossover with Harry Potter! How else to explain that all the Dementors from Azkaban showed up to join in the fun? Is the Anti-monitor actually Voldemort from somewhere else in the Multiverse? And speaking of unexpected crossovers, Tom Ellis did a credible job on Twitter denying that he was involved in Crisis after some pictures of him supposedly on set leaked months ago. It is interesting that his Luci was “season 1” Luci, not current Luci. Wondering if it is a one-off, or if that’s the Luci that we’ll come back to when the final season of Lucifer premieres in 6 months on Netflix?

I also wonder how they wrap all of this all up in January (on Arrow) – obviously all the Earths don’t stay gone. There must be only so many ideas in comics, as I kept getting an “Avengers Endgame” feel watching the third episode (The Flash).  Although I guess in the Arrowverse, nothing is permanent as Barry/The Flash can’t keep himself from messing with time/the speedforce.  Who needs a gauntlet when you can just run really fast back through time?

Lisa: Ahh! I’m over here cracking up at your Harry Potter comment. lol Can you imagine if they did add Harry Potter to the crossover? My nerd brain would explode with excitement lol. Anyway, I feel that this crossover has been jam-packed from the start. I mean….Oliver Queen dropping that arrow….and what followed was such a powerful scene I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

Cay you are so right about Lucifer! I thought he was more of season 1 Luci as well so I’m with you. Which one will we see when Lucifer returns? (I know it is a little off topic but I’m curious and we want to know!)

Back to the Crisis, I also got an Endgame vibe from The Flash episode (part 3). How are they going to wrap this up in 2 episodes? I feel like I need to watch the first 3 episodes again just to make sure I’m not missing anything! Wooo-sahhhh. It is a lot but I am captivated and can’t wait to see what happens in January!

Parts 4 and 5 of Crisis on Infinite Earths will air on January 15th. Batwoman airs Sunday nights at 9pm on the CW or you can stream it on the CW app.
