January TV Calendar
The following list provides the dates of the returning major and cable network dramas, the new dramas that will air major and cable networks as well as online and the made-for-TV movies that will air during January:
January 1 – The new Hallmark Channel movie A Rose for Christmas will debut at 8 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Andy (Rachel Boston) is a passionate and talented artist whose Pasadena family has been building Rose Parade floats for generations. But when her Dad gets sick and can’t lead this year’s efforts as usual, Andy has no choice but to take the helm and supervise the construction and decoration of their client’s float over Christmas with only a few weeks to go. And to make matters worse, she’s saddled with the extra challenge of dealing with Cliff (Marc Bendavid from Dark Matters), a demanding businessman whose company commissioned the float. Forced to work together, these two can’t help but clash – she’s a creative type who knows this flower-strewn process inside out, while he’s all business with no time for art. But working side-by-side over Christmas, they each learn the other is not who they seem. And together, with a ragtag team of volunteers, they might just have what it takes to create a magnificent Rose Parade float, if they can pull it together by New Year’s.
January 1 – Sherlock will be back with another New Year’s Day episode entitled The Six Thatchers at 9 PM on PBS
Special Synopsis: Season four begins with the mercurial Sherlock Holmes back once more on British soil as Doctor Watson and his wife Mary prepare for their biggest challenge yet: becoming parents.
January 1 – Conviction will move to its new night (Sundays) at 10 PM on ABC
January 1 – The new CBS drama Ransom will debut at approximately 8:30 PM after an NFL double-header.
Show Synopsis: This series is a crime drama about a world-renowned crisis and hostage negotiator whose team is brought in to resolve the most difficult kidnap and ransom cases. The cast includes Brandon Jay McLaren (Graceland), Luke Roberts (Black Sails), Nazneen Contractor (Covert Affairs) and Sarah Greene (Penny Dreadful).
NOTE: The show will move to Saturdays at 8 PM starting on January 7.
January 2 – The second season of Shadowhunters will return to Freeform at 8 PM followed by the two-hour series premiere of Beyond
Show Synopsis (Beyond): This new series is about Holden (Burkely Duffield), a young man who wakes up from a coma after 12 years and discovers new abilities that propel him into the middle of a dangerous conspiracy. The cast includes Romy Rosemont (Glee).
January 2 – The winter premiere of Scorpion will air on CBS at 10 PM
January 3 – The 12th and final season premiere of Bones will air on FOX at 9:01 PM
January 3 – The 4th season premiere of The Haves and the Have Nots will air on OWN at 9 PM
January 3 – Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. will air their winter premieres as a special crossover on NBC at 9 and 10 PM (respectively)
NOTE: Chicago P.D. will then move to its regular night on January 4
January 3 – The winter premieres of NCIS, Bull and NCIS: New Orleans will air on CBS at 8, 9 and 10 PM respectively
January 4 – Lethal Weapon will air its winter premiere on FOX at 8 PM followed by the time period premiere of the new show Star at 9:01 PM
January 4 – The winter premieres of Blindspot and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit will air on NBC at 8 and 9 PM respectively
January 4 – Criminal Minds and Code Black will air their winter premieres on CBS at 9 and 10 PM respectively
January 4 – Frequency will be back with new episodes on The CW at 9 PM
January 4 – The second season premiere of Too Close To Home will air on TLC at 10 PM

January 6 – The winter premieres of MacGyver, Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods will air on CBS at 8, 9 and 10 PM respectively
January 6 – The final season of Grimm will get underway on NBC at 8 PM followed by the two-hour debut of the new series Emerald City at 9 PM
Show Synopsis (Emerald City): Swept up into the eye of a tornado, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale (Adria Arjona) is transported to another world – a mystical land where an all-powerful ruler (Vincent D’Onofrio) governs over one kingdom, has outlawed magic, and faces not only the wrath of a growing cauldron of witches but a looming disaster brought on by a mythical force. The cast includes Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Dracula), Isabel Lucas (Home and Away) and Joely Richardson.
January 6 – The winter premiere of Rosewood will air on FOX in its new timeslot of 8 PM followed by the fourth season premiere of Sleepy Hollow at 9 PM
January 7 – The Hallmark Channel movie Love On Ice will debut at 9 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Former figure skating champion, Emily James, now 27 years old and considered a relic in the world of figure skating, gets an improbable shot to reclaim skating glory when a young coach sees greatness in her. Together, they find their love of skating goes far beyond the ice. The cast includes Julie Berman (Chicago Med), Andrew Walker (A Dream of Christmas) and Gail O’Grady (NYPD Blue).
January 8 – The 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards will air on NBC at 8 PM
January 8 – The new Hallmark Movies & Mysteries movie Garage Sale Mystery: The Art Of Murder will air at 9 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Jennifer Shannon (Lori Loughlin) is a garage sale shopping expert whose sharp observation skills allow her to uncover valuable antiques, as well as help her local police department investigate crimes. While arranging a charity garage sale event, Jennifer finds a body in the attic of a local residence. While working to crack the case, Jennifer offers support to her loving husband, Jason, whose upcoming birthday has sparked a mid-life crisis. As Jennifer prepares to buy him the perfect gift, she receives an urgent voicemail from Tina, pleading for her immediate assistance. When she responds, the garage sale-expert-turned-sleuth finds herself standing face-to-face with a killer. The cast includes Sarah Strange and Kevin O’Grady.
January 8 – The winter premieres of NCIS: Los Angeles, Madam Secretary and Elementary will air on CBS at 8, 9 and 10 PM respectively
January 10 – The season finale of Good Behavior will air on TNT at 9 PM

January 10 – The winter premiere of This Is Us will air at 9 PM on NBC
January 10 – The fourth season premiere of Being Mary Jane will air on BET at 10 PM
January 10 – The new 8-episode FX drama Taboo will debut at 10 PM
Show Synopsis: Set in 1814, Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney (box office star Tom Hardy), a man who has been to the ends of the earth, comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. But his father’s legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. The cast includes Oona Chaplin (The Longest Ride), Franka Potente (Copper), Jonathan Pryce (Pirates of the Caribbean franchise) and Edward Hogg (Beowulf) [among others].
January 11 – The third season premiere of Girlfriends Guide to Divorce will premiere on Bravo at 10 PM
January 12 – The second season of Colony will air on the USA Network at 10 PM
January 13 – The winter premiere of The Vampire Diaries will air on The CW at 8 PM
January 13 – The new Netflix streaming series A Series of Unfortunate Events will debut online
Show Synopsis: The eight-episode first series is based on the internationally best-selling series of books by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler) [Patrick Warburton] recounts the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans – Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes), and Sunny (Pressley Smith) – whose evil guardian Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance. The siblings must outsmart Olaf at every turn, foiling his many devious plans and disguises, in order to discover clues to their parents’ mysterious death. The cast includes Don Johnson, Joan Cusack, Catherine O’Hara and Alfre Woodard.
January 14 – The Hallmark Channel movie A Royal Winter will debut at 9 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: While on a last-minute European holiday, a young woman finds herself in the middle of a real-life fairy tale when a chance meeting with a handsome local leads to something more. However, things get complicated when she learns that the “local” is actually a prince who is about to be crowned King, and whose mother is dead-set against her royal son’s romance with the tourist. The cast includes Merritt Patterson (The Royals) and Jack Donnelly (Atlantis).
January 15 – The 6th season premiere of Homeland will air at 9 PM on Showtime
January 15 – The eight-episode PBS series Victoria will debut at 9 PM for two hours
Show Synopsis: The dramas follows Victoria (Jenna Coleman from Doctor Who) from the time she becomes Queen in 1837 at the age of 18 through her relationship with her first prime minister and intimate friend, Lord Melbourne (Rufus Sewell from The Man in the High Castle) and her courtship with and marriage to Prince Albert (Tom Hughes).
January 15 – The Young Pope is the new HBO series that will debut at 9 PM
Show Synopsis: Young and charming, Lenny Belardo, aka Pius XIII (Jude Law), is the first American Pope in history. His election seems to be the result of a simple yet effective media strategy on the part of the College of Cardinals. But appearances can be deceiving – above all, in the Vatican, where the leaders of the Church have chosen the great mystery of God as the compass guiding their existence. And Pius XIII proves to be the most mysterious and contradictory of them all. The cast includes Diane Keaton.
January 15 – The Hallmark Movies & Mysteries movie Framed for Murder: A Fixer Upper Mystery will debut at 9 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: In the small resort town of Lighthouse Cove, everyone knows that the best man for the job is a woman. And that woman is Shannon Hughes (singer-actress Jewel), owner of a construction company and an expert in Victorian home restoration and renovation. Through her renovations she will find clues to uncover the house’s secret past and in turn become an unlikely sleuth to help crack these unsolved mysteries. The cast includes Colin Ferguson (Eureka and Cedar Cove) and Laura Soltis (A Cookie Cutter Christmas).
January 16 – Gotham and Lucifer will be back with new episodes on FOX at 8 and 9 PM respectively
January 16 – The winter premiere of Timeless will air on NBC at 10 PM
January 17 – The season finale of No Tomorrow will air on The CW at 9 PM
January 18 – The new History Channel series Six will debut at 10 PM
Show Synopsis: The eight episode series follows members of Navy SEAL Team Six, modern American warriors, whose covert mission to eliminate a Taliban leader in Afghanistan goes awry when they uncover a U.S. citizen working with terrorists. The cast includes Walton Goggins (Justified), Barry Sloane (Revenge), Kyle Schmid (Copper), Juan Pablo Raba (Narcos and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), Edwin Hodge (Chicago Fire), Dominic Adams (Devious Maids) and Nadine Velasquez (Major Crimes).
January 20 – The 6-episode streaming series Frontier will debut online at Netflix
Show Synopsis: This is an action-packed adventure drama that follows the chaotic and violent struggle to control wealth and power in the North American fur trade in the late 18th century. The cast includes Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones and The Red Road), Landon Liboiron (Hemlock Grove), Zoe Boyle (Downton Abbey) and Greg Bryk (Bitten).
January 21 – The small screen adaptation of the box office film Beaches will air on Lifetime at 8 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: This version of the film follows the serendipitous meeting of two young girls on the Venice Boardwalk, who, though worlds apart in lifestyle, embark on unexpected and lifelong friendship. CC (Broadway star Idina Menzel) is an aspiring singer trying to make it in Los Angeles until she is discovered by a director who gives her her first big shot. Hillary (Nia Long from House of Lies) is the daughter of a prominent civil rights lawyer who struggles to find her own destiny. Their friendship – even with its ups and downs – sustains them for decades. The cast includes Antonio Cupo (Bomb Girls).
January 21 – The new Hallmark Channel movie Birthday Wish will debut at 9 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: With her thirtieth birthday approaching, Gwen Turner (Jessy Schram from Falling Skies), a young TV commercial director who plans every detail of her life, hopes her boyfriend, Alex Stone, will finally propose and fulfill her goal of being engaged by the time she’s thirty. Gwen meets Dave McKinley (Luke Macfarlane from Killjoys), a charming commercial director with a spontaneous approach to life, when an upscale ad agency pairs them to work together. When Alex does not propose, a disappointed Gwen makes a birthday wish: to see what her life will look like in ten years. The next morning, her wish miraculously comes true when she sees a vision of her future in which she is a happily married mom. But to her surprise, the man she’s married to in her vision is Dave, not Alex.

January 25 – The winter premiere of Suits will air on the USA Network at 10 PM
January 25 – Arrow will air its winter premiere on The CW at 8 PM followed by the finale of Frequency at 9 PM

Show Synopsis (Riverdale): As a new school year begins, the town of Riverdale is reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom – and nothing feels the same… Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) is still the all-American teen, but the summer’s events made him realize that he wants to pursue a career in music – not follow in his dad’s footsteps – despite the sudden end of his forbidden relationship with Riverdale’s young music teacher, Ms. Grundy (Sarah Habel). Which means Archie doesn’t have anyone who will mentor him – certainly not singer Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), who is only focused on her band, the soon-to-be-world-famous Pussycats. It’s all weighing heavily on Archie’s mind – as is his fractured friendship with budding writer and fellow classmate Jughead Jones (Disney star Cole Sprouse). Meanwhile, girl-next-door Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) is anxious to see her crush Archie after being away all summer, but she’s not quite ready to reveal her true feelings to him. And Betty’s nerves – which are hardly soothed by her overbearing mother Alice (Mädchen Amick from Twin Peaks) aren’t the only thing holding her back. When a new student, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), arrives in town from New York with her mother Hermione (Marisol Nichols from Teen Wolf), there’s an undeniable spark between her and Archie, even though Veronica doesn’t want to risk her new friendship with Betty by making a play for Archie. January 28 – The Lifetime original movie Love by the 10th Date will debut at 8 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: The telefilm follows Gabby (Meagan Good from Code Black), Nell (Kelle Stewart from The Soul Man), Billie (Keri Hilson from Think Like a Man) and Margot (Destiny’s Child singer Kelli Rowland) who balance their dating adventures alongside their career ambitions at an upscale digital magazine in Los Angeles, under the watchful eye of their editor, Maureen (Cat Deeley from So You Think You Can Dance).
January 28 – The latest Hallmark Hall of Fame movie Love Locks will debut on the Hallmark Channel at 9 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Lindsay Phillips (Rebecca Romijn from The Librarians) and her teenaged daughter Alexa travel to Paris so the girl can enroll in art school with the same teacher Lindsay had as a young woman. Lindsay is a gifted painter, however, after a broken promise with a boyfriend, she ends up back in New York, not as an artist, but as the editor of an art magazine. Lindsay cannot imagine that her journey to Paris with her daughter will result in an unplanned encounter with her former boyfriend, Jack Burrows (Jerry O’Connell from Scream Queens), a hotelier, or that the pair will reignite their passionate love affair.
