MODERN FAMILY: GRILL INTERRUPTED {RECAP}
April Fools! In honor of April fool’s day, ABC left little Easter eggs for fans in this episode of Modern Family (as well as the other Wednesday night comedies). Did you notice anything strange? Click here to see what you might have missed.
It’s Jay’s birthday and the whole gang is together for a celebration. We all know a family gathering with the Pritchett’s and the Dunphy’s is never dull! Let’s get down to it!
Phil bought Jay a super fancy grill for his birthday! It even had a built in rotisserie for chicken. That was a fine grill! Too bad it didn’t work. Phil almost burned down the backyard (and his eyebrows), and the rotisserie chicken spun so fast it looked like chicken Frisbee by the pool! It was hilarious but not efficient.
Andy and Haley! I keep rooting for them but they just can’t get it together. After Andy overheard Haley at the hospital say that he had a chance with her, he avoided her. He tried to focus on his girlfriend Beth (who is actually a real person)but couldn’t get Haley off of his brain. He came up with the plan to talk to Haley at the party and tell her how he felt, but Haley showed up with a date – a handsome doctor at that. He tried to tell her a few times but it didn’t happen. We will have to continue waiting for them to hook up. Le sigh.
Cam received a letter that his uncle (that he didn’t know) passed away and left him a large sum of money. He told Mitch and they agreed to buy the apartment upstairs. They each had different ideas for the money and it was spent before they even got it. Cam bought himself and Lily expensive fur coats and Mitch got sucked into Claire’s birthday plan for Jay (which took all the money).
Since Jay gave both Claire and Mitch money for the down payments on their houses, Claire thought it would be a nice gesture for them to offer to pay him back on his birthday (because he would never accept the money). Well, Claire was wrong and as soon as Mitch offered the money to Jay, he thanked him and Mitch knew he was in trouble because there went Cam’s inheritance.
Phil overheard that Jay gave them money for their house down payment and was upset that Claire never told him. He felt that loan cast a shadow over their relationship for the last 20 years and he had to pay him back. So he did. Jay appreciated that both his kids wanted to pay him back, but he ended up not taking their money (after he saw how crazy it made them).
Alex got into Cal Tech! Yay! She was annoyed every time Claire praised her and tried to act like it wasn’t a big deal. It was a big deal! She was concerned that she wouldn’t be the smartest person there and didn’t want to be a failure. Jay had a talk with her, and told her that he couldn’t be the leader of the family forever and she was the only one strong enough to take over. He told her that she would go to Cal Tech and it wouldn’t be easy but she would be successful. She knew he was right (about being the strong one because the rest of the family was still arguing about money). It was a nice moment between Alex and her grandfather and it reminded us that no matter how crazy that family is, they love and support each other whole-heartedly.
Fave quote– Phil to Claire after she called him a born cheerleader: “There is no such thing as a born cheerleader. It takes hard work and sacrifice. You know what a human pyramid is without hours of training? 10 obituaries.”
Thank you Phil for always making us laugh.
