Switched at Birth Recap: Pandora’s Box

By  |

Much like the appropriate title of this weeks’ episode of Switched at Birth, there are a lot of hidden secrets to be discovered, and all comes tumbling out of the box…

The episode begins when Regina walks in on Daphne looking at the pictures of Bay in the guitar case. Daphne, obviously, freaks out asking Regina how she knew and why she didn’t do anything. Regina is just about to explain when…Katherine comes in! Daphne then heads off to school but instead of going to class she decides to ditch and hang out—aka get drunk and make out—with Wilke. Bad girl Daphne, although it’s nice to see you letting loose and having some real fun.

That same day Bay goes over to Daphne’s school to talk to Emmet about that kiss (does no one go to class?). Anyway, the two end up spending the day on a blanket making out, how adorable. When Bay asks Emmet if he ever uses his voice he tells her to learn ASL, touché. Later the two head back to Emmet’s house where Bay finds his picture-shrine to Daphne. She gets a little weirded out but Emmet plays it off and says they are just friends, nothing more. This would have worked out fine until Daphne calls and Emmet has to go pick her drunk-self up from Wilke’s booted car.

Back in the Kennish world, John and Katherine prepare for trial with their lawyer, but no one expected what the other side turned up…Regina knew!! The lawyers inform the Kennish’s that Regina hired a PI when the girls were three and found out the truth. She also did nothing about it.

When Regina gets home Bay is ready for the attack, asking what’s in the case. Her parents arrive home just as this is all going down and immediately confront Regina.

Finally, Regina explains her side of the story to everyone. She tells them that Daphne’s father didn’t believe that Daphne was his because of her blonde hair and blue eyes; he claimed Regina had an affair. When Daphne got sick and then went Deaf he decided to get a paternity test to ensure she was not his, and he was right. However, Regina knew she didn’t have an affair so she went and got her own test done, discovering that Daphne was not related to her by blood.

Regina hired a PI and found Bay, but at that point she didn’t know what to do. The girls were already three and she and Daphne were already a family. What could she have done at that point? But what about Bay? How could a mother not try to contact her real daughter?

The Kennish’s then asked Regina to leave, Bay ran off to cry on Emmet’s shoulder and Daphne wouldn’t speak to her mother. Looks like they may not find a happy ending after all.

What did you think of this weeks episode? Do you like the progression between Bay and Emmet or will Emmet relapse into Daphne’s arms? Do you think Regina did the right thing by keeping the secret all these years? What would you do in that situation?
