DEADLY CLASS: Where Do We Go from Here? Postmortem with Benjamin Wadsworth
Earlier in the week Benjamin Wadsworth shared some of his most loved scenes and songs from Deadly Class
We also spent some time breaking down the wide open endings from the finale that would have spoiled many of the shocks. We leave with this image, and it only has a few places it can lead.
Benjamin doesn’t see many options besides “what happened to Lex” happening to Marcus and Maria. But if I’ve picked up anything from the conversations, there’s maybe aa way out for both of them and a new path for everyone.
Though when pressed about who is the strongest woman of the show, Benjamin highlighted both Saya and Petra. “Maria is very strong because because she dealt with, because what she went through with Chico and her family but she just didn’t really, she had bad coping mechanisms to deal with those problems.”
Can Maria use her skills against El Diablo one more time? I hope we get that answer.
One of the other big changes in the finale had to do with Master Gao and her opinions both on her brother, Master Lin, and the school in general.
While Marcus didn’t see the battles between Gao and Lin, Benjamin was very clear to say he had thoughts on how Kings will look as a school going forward, “I would say complete chaos at first but Lin’s sister’s still out there so probably after chaos turned to, like, a dictatorship, which is really better than chaos…I think it would be even more harsh because Lin let some things fly, but Gao is a lot more strict.”
Given her office and group of students submitting to her will, this Kings is not a good looking Kings.
But the one final question that haunted me about the finale was Willie. When asked if Willie will come back, Benjamin pointed out, “I think we’ll see Willie again, but at the end of the day, I do think he really cares about his friends.”
Before all of that, though, Marcus finally faced off with Chester and that drove so much of where the finale ended.
After all the taunting and needling, Chester and Marcus met face to face. The final meeting allowed Chester and Marcus to hear each other out, in a way that Benjamin appreciated.
“Marcus finally spoke his mind in the most genuine way . Marcus has a lot of opinions but whenever it came to talk to Chester he actually realized that he was wrong in some areas and he corrected himself because he didn’t want to be a hypocrite. I really enjoy it.”
In the wake of the finale I hope we do have another season to see where Marcus and Team Vegas can go!
