DEADLY CLASS: Thoughts on the Season from Benjamin Wadsworth

By  |

Earlier this week, I had the pleasure to talk with Benjamin Wadsworth, Marcus, from Deadly Class, about the season leading up to tonight’s finale.

Benjamin is an affable guy, quick to comment on the nice LA weather we finally have before we get into the meat of the interview.

On Getting the Role

In the first minute, it’s evident that Benjamin has a sense of humor when it comes to acting. He explained that he hadn’t read any of the comics before he audtioned, though he was happy to audition for anything as a struggling actor. Once he finished the process, he dug into the comics – which is clearly something he enjoyed.

He describes Marcus like this:

“[Marcus] is just not your average Boy Next Door kind of character like [he’s] this melancholy teenager who has these opinions about life and experiences so many different emotions like being angry and sad and happy, so I really, I like I gravitate towards characters who, who are flawed and who have problems.”

Boy are Marcus’ problems a central part of the series!

If Marcus hadn’t been brought to Kings Dominion, Benjamin’s sure that “He’s probably be a comic book writer with his friends.” That life he could have lead without the though of killing Reagan is not something we see, it’s impressive that Benjamin can imagine Marcus’ life beyond.

Awkward and Fun Scenes

His favorite episode to shoot was the episode in Vegas, because of how he had to play that acid trip. If there’s another season of the show (*fingers crossed*) Benjamin hopes the show will dive into the drug spiral that Marcus goes on in the comics with Billy, complete with cocaine.

With the soundtrack the show can use, it’ll be something to see timed with a perfect representation of the excess.

Last week’s gross out moment caused his dad to leave the room, he revealed. I can’t say I blame him at all for something so graphic. More specifically, Benjamin talked about that moment as if it were nothing out of the ordinary. I can’t help but laugh at his tweet about the whole situation.

Favorite Song

It was an easy choice for him to decide on his favorite song: “Kids from the Black Hole. Like the classic for like the punk, punk culture.”

When talking about the song, he also went on to discuss how much fun to was to shoot all the scenes in the club.

“That was a lot of fun, that was probably the most the most fun times I had shooting the show. Slam dancing scene was…it was…it was…great. It was great and I guess learned how to slam dance”

Come back on Friday for more with Benjamin, as we dug into the finale’s twists and turns.
