THE ROOKIE Roundtable: Greenlight

By  |

The Rookie was back with a new episode this week, focusing on:

Officer Nolan gets a lesson in respect after his arrest of a gang member leads to a free-for-all on his life; officer Chen and Bradford pull over Mario Lopez, who thinks he can talk his way out of a traffic violation.

THE ROOKIE – “Greenlight” – (ABC/Richard Cartwright)
ERIC WINTER, MELISSA O’NEIL

Let’s dig into the episode with our new feature SASSY: S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(our Thoughts):

STUPID

Roz: Cole Midas is the stupidest stupid to ever stupid. Wow! I get that someone in his place could be blinded by a perceived slight, but the extent to which he went to avenge his girlfriend lead to so many damaging affects.

Leah: I’m with both of you. Taking on a police force – not some small town we don’t see any action force – but the LAPD over something so ridiculous seems – well it seems so ridiculous. UGH!

Rueben: I have to agree with Roz. Cole Midas is an idiot. I’d love to use every expletive in the world to describe him, but I’m sure everyone can think of them without my having to “say” them.

AWESOME

Roz: I really like Nolan and the whole house trying to be above board with how they handled Cole’s arrest, even though it came at the cost of Captain Anderson.

Leah: Captain Anderson was the star of this episode. She is always so subtly bad ass and in control. To the very last breath she managed to handle business.

Rueben: Up until Captain Anderson was shot I was all prepared to select her for my Woman of the Week – and even posthumously she probably still deserves it – so that whole scene was just amazing, watching what she did to get out of the pool and take down those guys. I also admired Nolan for going into work even when he was told not to, and getting that standing ovation (even if Bishop was reluctant to join in).

SO SO

Roz: Oh why Mario Lopez are you reducing yourself to this? It’s such a small thing in this episode, but it’s annoying to have that sort of bit casting when something so heavy happens later.

THE ROOKIE – “Greenlight” – (ABC/Richard Cartwright)
MARIO LOPEZ

Leah: I think Mario Lopez and Eric Winter are friends in real life so I guess I can see the casting, but it seems like not the right episode to do it in.

Rueben: That whole Mario Lopez cameo was just needless as far as I was concerned. Also, while I love me some Shawn Ashmore, his character calling Lopez just as they are ready to take down Cole Midas was just so the wrong time to take a phone call and just seemed dumb.

YOUR THOUGHTS

Roz:

Leah: This episode truly came through with the feels. I can’t handle much more!

Rueben: The promos for this episode kept saying it was going to the most important episode of the season, and I thought that was just hype, but it sure was. And now next week’s episode is going to focus on aftershocks – and not just the earthquake kind I’m sure. After these episodes, I think we should get a more light-hearted episode just to calm the nerves, et al.
