My Top Choices for November TV

By  |

As I’m sure our NiceGirlsTV readers know by now, I’m a big sap, watching all of the Hallmark Channel movies all year long; and with the network’s Countdown to Christmas getting underway starting this coming Saturday, there are going to be lots of movies airing in November.

But the Hallmark Channel isn’t the only one airing holiday-themed movies. Their sister channel Hallmark Movies & Mysteries is too – but sadly, I don’t get that channel on my DirecTV satellite dish – as well as UP TV and Lifetime.

The following list features my top choices for November TV that is very top-heavy with holiday movies from most of those channels as well as a couple big TV events.

Here we go:

SAYING GOODBYE

In a move that seems very appropriate, the TNT 5-season long post-apocalyptic military drama The Last Ship will air its very last episode EVER on November 11 – Veteran’s Day – at 9 PM, bringing the trials and tribulations of the Nathan James to a conclusion.

DROUGHTLANDER IS OVER

Anyone who knows me – even just a little bit – knows that I am a HUGE fan of the TV series Outlander. I came into the whole phenomenon much later than most, not reading the books until the casting of Sam Heughan was announced back in the summer of 2013. I was familiar with Sam’s work – naturally – in a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie – and I was sold. I bought the first book and took an Alice in Wonderland deep dive into the world of Outlander and have never dug my way out; and have no intentions to ever do so, quite honestly.

Needless to say, the season premiere of the fourth season of the Starz hit will air on November 4 at 8 PM and I CANNOT WAIT!!

BIG ACTION ON THE SMALL SCREEN

Box office star Chris Pine (Star Trek and Wonder Woman) will take to the small screen in the lead role in the Netflix original film Outlaw King on November 9. The epic story will focus on the renowned King of Scots, Robert the Bruce, and the war of liberation he waged against the English occupation of Scotland. The cast includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Florence Pugh (Lady MacBeth), Tony Curran (Defiance) and Steven Cree (Outlander).

On November 19, November 20 and November 21, the 6-hour AMC event series The Little Drummer Girl will air two episodes each night starting at 9 PM. Florence Pugh is back on the small screen alongside True Blood alum Alexander Skarsgård in the adaptation of the John le Carre literary masterpiece that is set in the late 1970s, that follows Charlie (Pugh), a fiery actress and idealist whose resolve is tested after she meets the mysterious Becker (Skarsgård) while on holiday in Greece. Becker’s intentions are not what they seem, though, and her encounter with him entangles her in a complex plot devised by mastermind spy Kurtz (Michael Shannon, star of The Shape of Water and Man of Steel). Charlie takes on the role of a lifetime as a double agent while remaining uncertain of her own loyalties.

HOLIDAY MOVIES GALORE

There are over 30 holiday movies set to debut throughout November; out of those I am most anxious to see the following:

On November 23, the Hallmark Channel movie Pride, Prejudice and Mistletoe will debut at 8 PM, starring Lacey Chabert and Chesapeake Shores alum Brendan Penny in a twist adaptation of the classic Jane Austen story.

Royal Pains alum Brooke D’Orsay and former When Calls the Heart lead Daniel Lissing will appear in the Hallmark Channel movie Christmas in Love on November 11 at 8 PM, focusing on a small town crafter meeting a big-city CEO.

On November 18, the Hallmark Channel sequel movie Christmas in Evergreen: Letters to Santa will air at 8 PM with Jill Wagner (Hallmark’s A Harvest Wedding) and Mark Deklin (Hallmark’s Switched for Christmas) taking over the lead roles in the next adventure in the little town of Evergreen.

Hallmark Channel regulars Danica McKellar and Brennan Elliott will star in Christmas at Grand Valley at 8 PM where an artist and a businessman collide in the picturesque town

On November 23, the Lifetime movie Poinsettias for Christmas will air at 8 PM, starring One Tree Hill alum Bethany Joy Lenz and When Calls the Heart recurring guest star Marcus Rosner in a story about rescuing a family’s poinsettia farm.

Lastly, the Hallmark Channel movie Christmas at the Palace will air on November 22 at 8 PM that will star Merritt Patterson (Hallmark’s A Royal Winter) and Andrew Cooper (Hallmark’s Royal Hearts) in another story about a royal from a fictional country falling for a commoner who is there to help a young girl master an ice skating performance.

Make sure to check out our November TV calendar, as it will be posted this Sunday.
