My Top Choices for January TV
With a new year only a few days away, it’s time to take a look at what January TV has in store for us TV viewers. The list of all the programming options coming in January is lengthy, featuring new made-for-TV movies, a special or two and dramas that are returning after their winter breaks, premiering new seasons or coming to an end for the season.
From that long list, I have chosen my top 14 choices for January TV. They are as follows:
COMING TO AN END
Season four of the Paramount Network modern-day western Yellowstone, the highest rated cable network drama of this year, will come to an end on January 2 with a two-hour season finale starting at 8 PM.
RETURNING FROM ITS WINTER BREAK
The two dramas returning from their winter break that I am most anxious to see are The Rookie on ABC on January 2 at 10 PM and New Amsterdam on NBC at 10 PM on January 4.
SO EXCITED FOR THIS SPECIAL
The special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will air online on HBO Max on January 1 with SO many cast members from the legendary film franchise making appearances to share in conversations and in-depth interviews. Just some of those cast members include Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as well as Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch and Ian Hart
SEASON PREMIERES
The dramas that will be airing season premieres during January include:
This Is Us on NBC on January 4 at 9 PM
Superman & Lois on The CW on January 11 at 8 PM
Snowpiercer on TNT on January 24 at 9 PM
Resident Alien on Syfy on January 26 at 9 PM
NEW SHOWS ON THE BLOCK
Out of the nearly dozen new dramas that will debut in January, I am most anxious to see these:
Around the World in 80 Days, based on the Jules Verne book and starring Doctor Who alum David Tennant, will debut on PBS on January 2 at 8 PM. Luckily there will be 8 episodes so viewers will get to see a lot of the classic adventure.
The Gilded Age, the newest period piece drama from Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, will debut on HBO on January 24 at 9 PM. The series begins in 1882 with a young woman moving from rural Pennsylvania to New York City, to live with her wealthy aunts, where she becomes enmeshed in a social wars.
Monarch, the multi-generational musical drama starring Susan Sarando and country music star Trace Adkins as country music royalty Albie and Dottie Roman, will debut on FOX on January 30 at 10 PM.
MADE-FOR-TV MOVIES
Out of the 20 movies that are set to air on TV during January, the following are the few that I must want to see:
Where Your Heart Belongs on the Hallmark Channel on January 1 at 9 PM, starring Jen Lilley and Christopher Russell. The setting is a rural maple farm and the event is a fast-approaching wedding.
The Wedding Veil on the Hallmark Channel at 9 PM on January 8, starring Lacey Chabert, Autumn Reeser and Alison Sweeney as long-time college friends who discover a mysterious, antique veil fabled to unite its bearer with her true love.
Love on the Road on UPtv on January 23 at 7 PM, starring Erin Cahill and Jesse Hutch. The setting is a restaurant where a makeover show host has to transform a rustic small-town diner into a place on the culinary map.
