My Top Choices for September TV
Before the pandemic, Fall TV was always a BIG time of the year for TV viewers with all the new shows, specials and movies set to air. There were always a multitude of choices, but the TV landscape in 2020 was bleak to say the least.
This year, however, things are slowly coming back to “normal” – albeit not to the level of past TV seasons – allowing fans of the small screen to look forward to the fall TV season. With that thought in mind, I’ve gone through the lengthy September calendar, picking out my top choices for next month.
BACK FOR MORE
The following dramas will be back with new seasons:
9-1-1 on FOX on September 20 at 8 PM
NCIS on CBS on September 20 at 9 PM (its new night and time)
New Amsterdam on NBC on September 21 at 10 PM
A Million Little Things on ABC on September 22 at 10 PM
Doom Patrol on HBO Max on September 23
The Rookie on ABC on September 26 at 10 PM
NEW DRAMAS ON THE BLOCK
While the number of new dramas debuting this fall isn’t as plentiful as in seasons past, there are still a lot of options; and among them, I am looking forward to the following:
Y: The Last Man on FX on Hulu on September 13. Based on the DC Comics series, the series is set in a post-apocalyptic world where, after every single man on the planet except one – Yorick Brown dies – the female survivors struggle with their efforts to restore what was lost and the opportunity to build something better.
Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol on September 16 on Peacock. Based on the international best-selling thriller, the series follows the early adventures of young Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, who must solve a series of deadly puzzles to save his kidnapped mentor and thwart a chilling global conspiracy.
The Big Leap on FOX on September 20 at 9 PM. The show that features an ensemble cast revolves around a group of diverse, down-on-their-luck characters attempting to change their lives by participating in a potentially life-ruining reality dance show featuring a modern reimagining of “Swan Lake.”
Ordinary Joe on NBC on September 20 at 10 PM. The series centers on Joe Kimbreau as he makes a pivotal, life-changing decision at his college graduation and follows him on three parallel timelines: as a police officer, as a music star, and as a nurse.
The spin-off NCIS: Hawai’i on CBS on September 20 at 10 PM. The series is centered on the island and the first female Special Agent in Charge and her unwavering team of specialists.
La Brea on NBC on September 28 at 9 PM. The series focuses on what happens when a massive sinkhole opens in the middle of Los Angeles, pulling hundreds of people and buildings into its depth, landing them in a mysterious and dangerous primeval land; while the rest of the world desperately seeks to understand what happened.
MOVIES, MOVIES, MOVIES
The one thing that hasn’t stopped being plentiful is made-for-TV movies and September is no exception.
Here are the Hallmark Channel movies, all set to air at 9 PM:
Journey of My Heart on September 4, starring Rhiannon Fish and Darien Martin
Roadhouse Romance on September 11, starring Lauren Alaina and Tyler Hynes
Raise a Glass to Love on September 18, starring Laura Osnes and Juan Pablo Di Pace
Taking the Reins on September 25, starring Nikki DeLoach and Scott Porter
Here are the UPtv movies, all set to air at 7 PM:
A Vineyard Romance on September 5, starring Rebecca Olson and Marcus Rosner
Love in Translation on September 12, starring Michelle Argyris and Corey Sevier
Romance in the Wilds on September 19, starring Victor Zinck, Jr. and Laura Vandervoort
Calling for Love on September 26, starring Karissa Lee Staples and Tajh Bellow
Lastly, a new look at Cinderella will debut on September 3 on Amazon, starring singer Camila Cabello in the title role along with Broadway star Idina Menzel, Billy Porter as the genderless fairy godparent and Pierce Brosnan and Minnie Driver as the King and Queen.
The full September TV calendar, featuring the dramas, specials and movies that will air throughout the month went live on Saturday. Once you’ve checked out that list, please share what you’re looking forward to watching.
