Good Witch Recap: “The Loft”

By  |

The penultimate episode of season six of Good Witch aired on the Hallmark Channel last night focusing on Cassie’s book club heading to Chicago for two days to help them reconnect; Sam having to deal with the malfunction of the hospital’s new equipment while the new doctor was conducting surgery and Adam’s time to leave for his mission drawing near.

Two Days in Chicago

As the episode opened, Cassie learned that her trip to Chicago with Sam would have to be cancelled because of an upcoming surgery at the hospital. Unfortunately, it was too late for them to cancel with the hotel so when it was clear that Cassie and the ladies of her book club – as well as Joy’s business partner Donna – needed a change of scenery – and hopefully a chance to mend some fences, they headed to the big city.

Adam’s Mission

During the course of the episode, Adam first told Stephanie that it could be a few weeks before the mission pastor advised him where he would be heading for his mission. And while they have been bracing for this news, they were both coming to the realization that it was really going to happen. However, when Adam was speaking with the new chief at the hospital, it became clear that Adam’s job there could end up going to someone else. Ouch!

Naturally, this led Adam to ponder the pros and cons of going on his mission; but when he finally received word that he would be leaving in a week, he needed to start making his packing list and to tell Stephanie the news face-to-face.

A Malfunction at the Hospital

The reason for Sam and Cassie’s trip to be cancelled was due to an important hip surgery being conducted by the new doctor – Dr. Jacobson – with the help of the hospital’s newly acquired high-tech piece of equipment. Unfortunately, that equipment went on the fritz DURING the surgery requiring Sam to walk Dr. Jacobson through the procedure since he had never conducted a surgery like this without the aid of that equipment. As it turned out, the surgery went well – thank you Sam! – and the success seemed to help the new administrator Grant to see Sam in a better light AND it allowed for Sam and Adam to sneak away to Chicago so Adam could tell Stephanie the news about his mission and, well, gave Sam an opportunity to be with Cassie.

Saying Goodbye

Cassie was also in Chicago for an important reason: to pay her respects to her dear friend and mentor Olympia, who passed away. Joy and Abigail joined Cassie in the special tribute at a local tea house that Olympia regularly frequented; she went there so much, in fact, that a special plaque was placed – in her honor. When that reveal was made – showing Olympia’s full name – it was another clue for Abigail. Cassie’s mentor’s full name was Olympia Connelly Fowler; she’s related to the Connelly who painted that artwork and received property from Roderick Davenport all those decades ago. Cassie knew that crescent moon in Priscilla Connelly’s signature because of Olympia; and that was a guiding light for Abigail.

Donna’s Charm

Joy’s business partner and long-time friend Donna didn’t exactly win over cousin Abigail, and may have briefly charmed Martha, but she was also getting on setting Joy on edge quite a bit too. It would seem that both Abigail and Donna have something in common other than their initial dislike for each other. Abigail doesn’t want Joy to leave and Donna doesn’t want Joy to stay (jealous much, ladies?/!). In the end, Abigail and Donna seemed to come to terms with their dislike for each other [but we’ll see how long that holds out].

A Missing Bag and an Egg-cellent Meal

It was a case of the missing bag and a much anticipated meal by a big-time Chef that capped off the episode. Upon arrival in Chicago, Stephanie received an unexpected notification that she could potentially win tickets to a pop-up restaurant by a well-known Chef that both she and Martha admire. Sadly, they were too late to get free tickets during a scavenger hunt and they missed out on speaking directly to the Chef himself outside the Chicago hotel where they were staying; but it was Joy’s missing bag that brought them all together. Joy’s bag got switched for the Chef’s bag; and as a thank you, Donna was able to procure tickets for all of them to enjoy what was being touted as a gastronomic feast. Too bad the “feast” turned out to be a teeny tiny quail egg that left all of them feeling rather famished; but instead of devouring a sumptuous meal at the hotel, most of them ended up with pizza while Cassie and Sam purchased some hot dogs from the vendor outside the hotel as they took in a nice stroll.
