By  |

The UPtv movie In-Lawfully Yours will have a repeat performance this Saturday, April 18 at 9 PM (Eastern).

The movie focuses on a fun-loving woman (Chelsey Crisp from Fresh Off the Boat) from New York City moves to a small town to help her recently widowed ex mother-in-law. Her personality clashes with the locals, and when she goes public with her new relationship with the pastor, the town rallies to kick her out.

The film also stars Marilu Henner (Taxi, Evening Shade and the Aurora Teagarden Mysteries franchise), Joe Williamson (All Rise), Corbin Bernsen (Psych and L.A. Law) and Phillip Boyd (The Haves and the Have Nots).

NiceGirlsTV had the chance to interviw star Chelsey Crisp, and she had this to share:

Can you give us your own synopsis of your movie In-Lawfully Yours?

Essentially, it’s a story of a woman finding herself in the wake of an unexpected divorce. It’s done with a lot of heart and humor, which is my favorite way of addressing heavy subjects.

What drew you to your character in this movie?

Some characters fit like a pair of comfy jeans – Jesse was that for me. From the first time I read Sean Gaffney’s script, I knew I wanted to be on board. Jesse’s combo of humanity, silliness and edginess really hooked me; she was a blast to play.

Are there any funny behind the scenes stories you can tell about filming this movie?

So many! This cast really became a family and the movie was a joy to shoot – even in the very, VERY cold Virginia winter. A fun behind-the-scenes fact is that my character’s nemesis Daphne is played by my real-life best friend Erin Muroski. Our scenes were full of bloopers & outtakes because we’ve done improv together for a decade.

What was it like to work alongside Marilu Henner?

She’s a goddess. She’s a class act – brilliant, hilarious and so nurturing. I would love to work with Marilu in as many projects as possible.

Can you talk about your experience working on Fresh Off the Boat? How much fun was it working on the show?

Fresh Off the Boat was a dream job and I miss the cast and crew so much. We finished shooting the series last December and it’s been strange adjusting to life without it. I miss my friends dearly, especially now that the world is in flux and times are uncertain.

Do you have a dream project you would like to work on someday?

I’m creating a show with Eric Ziobrowski, a co-executive producer from Fresh Off the Boat. I hope we get to make it, because it’s set in a world that really makes us laugh.

What is the best piece of advice your received while pursuing your acting career?

Find your tribe. I think having a close network of great friends is the key to making this industry your home. At least, it is for me.

What is your favorite hobby?

Cooking. Thanks to my dad, I’ve always loved being in the kitchen.

In the age of COVID-19, how are you handling the isolation?

Cooking. So. Much. Cooking.

Do you support a charity or organization that you would like to promote?

Yes! Ability360 in my hometown of Phoenix, AZ, is an amazing organization. Through its comprehensive programs, they touch the lives of individuals with disabilities and address the disability concerns of their family members, co-workers and employers. You can learn more about their amazing work here.
