When Calls the Heart Recap: “An Unexpected Gift”

By  |

Sunday night’s new episode of When Calls the Heart was entitled “An Unexpected Gift,” focusing on Elizabeth getting a surprise bouquet of flowers, which had the town wondering who left them while Rosemary and Lee organized Jesse and Clara’s bachelor and bachelorette parties.

It’s Party Time in Hope Valley

With the wedding of Jesse and Clara fast approaching, it was time for the men and women to celebrate the bride and groom; but instead of a traditional bridal shower for the times, Rosemary announced to Lee that they were preparing for a new tradition: the bachelorette party. [Thank God the show is set in the 1910’s and not the 2010’s as the bachelorette party would have been way less tame than it was!] Given that, Lee had to set up to create a much more lively bachelor party for Jesse. When it came time, though, the two parties were held on opposite sides of the saloon; and it was clear that the women’s games were going over much better than the round of cards for the men. In the end, the two parties co-mingled and fun was had by all.

Baby, You Can Drive My Car

Henry Gowen’s car played center stage in the story line for Rosemary and Fiona, who traveled together to Benson Hills in order for Rosemary to get the lace for Clara’s wedding dress and Fiona got repair parts for Bill’s telephone. Their adventure took a bit of a wrong turn, though, when Henry’s car broke down about two miles outside of town. The ladies were able to get help from one of the nearby farm owners; but Fiona still had to deal with figuring out how to repair Henry’s car without him knowing anything was wrong with it in the first place. With a much needed tow by the farm owner’s horse and carriage, Fiona sought help from blacksmith Kevin. Unfortunately, neither of them could figure out what was wrong with Henry’s car; and ended up pushing the vehicle to Henry’s office where he explained that the car had an existing problem – it wasn’t something caused by anything that Fiona did to the car while she was borrowing it.

An Unexpected Gift

The show has been eluding to Elizabeth being ready to move forward with a potential relationship – and of course Lucas, the saloon owner, and Nathan, the town’s new Mountie – are the would-be suitors. Elizabeth was surprised to discover flowers left at her front door without a note as to who sent them to her so naturally as word spread throughout their small community, it was believed that either Lucas or Nathan had left them for her. However, Elizabeth learned that it was actually her dear friend Rosemary who left the flowers because she had noticed that Elizabeth was feeling a bit melancholy because of baby Jack getting older and no longer fitting into his clothes.

Elizabeth admitted to Rosemary that while she is ready to allow her heart to move forward IF the flowers had been from either Lucas or Nathan it would have made it too “real” for her. Her next surprise came at the end of the episode when Lucas showed up at her door with a bouquet of flowers for her followed shortly be Nathan also bringing flowers to her door.

Let the competition for Elizabeth’s heart begin.
